oh don't you dare look back just keep your eyes on me shut up and dance -- walk the moon words: 170 The mall itself was a little overwhelming.
Eddie was never one to shy away from crowds, but when one came from a tiny-ass town in New Mexico to a mall that could probably swallow the population of his hometown, it could be a bit much. Fortunately, he at least was in good company.
"Where do we start?" he asked Willow, looking over to find his housemate to both get her response and to also make sure he didn't lose her. Not only was she on the smaller side, Eddie was a little paranoid that her enthusiasm could lead her to abandon his side if her attention span was snagged by something else. He wasn't worried for either of their safety, no, but they could both briefly get lost from one another.
Being a Friday night didn't help the crowds, either. He wondered if they would see any classmates around, people who probably would be surprised at a couple of Bayville High's new kids knowing each other enough to shop together.

Tag: Foxtrot, open! Words: 169 "Wherever we want!" was Willow's enthusiastic response to Eddie's question. She was pulling down the light scarf she was wearing -- more fashionable than practical in this early autumn weather -- from around her neck and looking around at the crowd milling about the mall this Friday evening. "Oh, maybe we can get some cupcakes after we get you some winter stuff, there's a great little kiosk in the food court that has amazing cupcakes...!"
She looped an arm around one of Eddie's own, tugging him further into the crowd. "Anything in particular you had in mind for your winter clothes? Hats, jackets, boots? Or did we just want to pick a store at random and see what they had? Look, here's one of the mall directories."
She led Eddie over to one of the mall maps that were usually stationed close enough to the entrance, depicting which floor they were on and where each store was in the mall. "Let's see, I think this is technically the east entrance, right?"

"Isn't this the west entrance? I think we're the red dot here." Mason had joined Eddie and Willow at the mall's map, intending on using it himself. "Oh, wait, that's the customer service on the other side of the floor... So we must be this green dot."
Mason gave his housemates a crooked smile. "I've been to all sorts of malls throughout my life, but I definitely prefer the outdoor boardwalk types. Think I miss that most about Florida... Well, that and the heat."
He glanced down at one of his biggest bags, the contents inside laden with a new winter coat, a pair of gloves, a hat, and a couple of scarves.
"Didn't know you two were coming to the mall today too," Mason said, "otherwise I would have offered to carpool with you. You guys come here for anything specific today?" He suddenly chuckled. "Or shall I leave you alone? No hard feelings either way. I'm getting used to checking whether or not my company is wanted or needed."

we were victims of the night the chemical, physical, kryptonite shut up and dance -- walk the moon words: 220 notes: nada And Willow was already talking about food.
Eddie laughed in good nature as Willow briefly rambled about cupcakes -- which, honestly, did sound delicious -- before she brought the conversation back to the real reason as to why they were at the mall. Before he could answer, she led him over to one of the mall directories. The plethora of stores on the map were a bit overwhelming, and he was glad that Willow seemed to know what section they were in.
Until, of course, Mason appeared at their side and said the opposite.
"Wait, wait, wait..." Eddie glanced back and forth between his housemates and the directory. "Where are we? Do we know?"
He spied Mason's bags, and he pointed at what was in them. "That's the kind of stuff I need. Where did you get those?"
Eddie raised an eyebrow up at Mason when the other asked if Willow and Eddie would like him to leave them alone, and Eddie said, "I'm always cool with your company, if Willow doesn't mind."
It wasn't like this was a date, or anything. That thought then, naturally, turned into the idea as to what dating Willow could be like...
Eddie brought his mind back to the present and asked Mason, "What do you mean about checking whether your company is wanted or needed?"

Tag: Incognito FoxtrotWords: 193 Willow beamed up at Mason as he appeared and joined them. "The more the merrier," she said, having no problem with the idea of spending Friday afternoon at the mall with two of her friends. Even if hanging out with said friends meant being lost together.
Eddie sounded confused when Mason started talking about where they were in relation to the mall's map, and Willow pointed out, "Look, we're right by American Eagle, and there it is on the map. So, yes, we're the green dot."
Really, out of the three of them, Willow was probably the most experienced with the mall. It may have sounded stereotypical since she was the teenage girl among them, but she had explored Bayville's mall a few times since moving to the Xavier Institute.
She let Eddie ask Mason for clarification about his words -- while also demanding to know where he had gotten his shopping done -- but was getting a little antsy already. "Shall we head towards the store that Mason shopped at? Seems like you had good luck," she added, looking at the bag herself.
Besides, the faster they shopped, the sooner they could be having cupcakes.

Neither Willow nor Eddie seemed to mind that Mason was there too, and Willow confirmed that she knew where they were. "I stand corrected," Mason said, giving her a smile. At least one of them could read a map.
Eddie appeared to be at the mall for the same reason Mason had been, and Mason jerked a thumb behind him. "Essence Company," he said, stating the name of the store. "Honestly, it was one of the first stores I passed by that had winter clothes in the display window. Most of it is generic and the prices weren't too bad. No idea if Willow knows of any better brands to get you what you need."
Mason was then asked to clarify one of his comments, and he said, "Ah, well... It's mostly because of my roommate. Noah sometimes needs to be alone to decompress, so I'm trying to get into the habit to see if he's good with me being around instead of just bursting into the room and talking his ears off."

helpless to the bass and the fading light shut up and dance -- walk the moon words: 174 notes: nada Thankfully Willow knew how to read the map directory.
Mason mentioned which store he had gone to, and the name meant nothing to Eddie. Still, he nodded, saying, "I'll follow both of your leads. Cloudcroft had nowhere near this scale when it came to shopping."
He gestured to his friends to go back the way Mason had just come from and found himself browsing through some of the racks of Essence Company. "Noah still a little skittish?" Eddie asked with a small wince. "He's been with us for about a month, right?"
Eddie didn't really know much about Noah's homelife (like, really, nothing at all) so he could only imagine it was rather overwhelming to be thrown into a manor with a bunch of other superpowered teenagers. Eddie briefly wondered if he should try inviting Noah the next time he needed to go to the mall or some other place out in Bayville, but considering what Noah did for his own mutant abilities, Eddie was sure Noah would get overwhelmed quickly in a crowd.

Tag: Foxtrot IncognitoWords: 219 Mason admitted that Essence Company was one of the first stores he saw and went in, opting to just buy rather than actually shop for what he needed. Good-naturedly, Willow rolled her eyes. "You guys are such boys," she said. "You didn't think to do a little comparison browsing in other stores? Places that may be better quality? Or cheaper?"
Cheaper in price usually meant cheaper in quality, but still. There may be sales somewhere in the mall.
Regardless, Willow followed the two to Essence Company, helping Eddie go through the racks of winter clothing. The conversation turned to one of the newest members of the manor and Willow said, "He seems to be doing okay in the high school. Of course, I really only see him in first period and sometimes at lunch. Maybe we can invite him somewhere that has less of a crowd than a mall but is still out and about. Let him get more used to us. What about this?"
With a flourish, Willow took a winter jacket off the rack to show to Eddie. It was a deep orange in color, not too puffy, but the lining seemed like it would keep him fairly warm. "I'm just not sure if it's heavy enough if we get a blizzard," Willow said as an afterthought.

Mason laughed when Willow admonished them for being, well, boys.
"Aw, c'mon," he said, a teasing grin on his face as he turned to walk with his friends back to Essence Company. "That's why you love us, right?"
Both Eddie and Willow commented on Noah's shy state, and it was good to hear that Willow believed Noah was doing okay at the high school. Mason himself really only caught a glimpse of his roommate at lunch during the school day itself.
"Maybe to the movies or something?" Mason suggested when Willow mentioned inviting Noah out somewhere less crowded. "We should all do some sort of outing together. Think the teachers will trust our little group out on our own?"
Willow picked out a jacket for Eddie, and Mason settled off to the side to watch. When Willow commented about a blizzard, Mason said, "I'm all for staying curled up inside during blizzards anyway. Won't need a coat if you stay by the fireplace or in bed."

oh we were bound to get together shut up and dance -- walk the moon words: 265 notes: nada Eddie shared a grin with Mason and Willow as the pair teased each other (and him!) about how boys shop.
"It's why we need you here," Eddie said to Willow, nudging her even as they all made it into the store that Mason had just left. Vaguely, he wondered if any of the employees would find it odd that Mason returned with an entourage.
Talk turned to their newest housemate, which in turn switched the topic of conversation to doing something all together. "I would hope the teachers trust us enough for something like that," Eddie said. "I'm down to go out with everyone. That sounds like a great idea!" The movies, at least, sounded simple enough that maybe even Noah would join them.
Willow picked out a jacket for Eddie, and he held it up to himself, trying to gauge the fit. He didn't mind the color, at least, and it would definitely make him stand out if he ever were out in a snowstorm. His friends mentioned blizzards and Eddie admitted, "Never experienced one myself, but staying all cozy by a fireplace while it snowed outside sounds delightful."
He shrugged off his current jacket, wordlessly handing it to Mason to hold for him, and shrugged the new coat on to see how it fit and felt. It fit just fine for now, but if he had a little more growing to do, he may not fit into it next year. Still, he posed, his hands on his hips and swiveling around in his spot before asking the other two, "What do you think?"

Tag: Incognito FoxtrotWords: 244 "There are plenty of other reasons why I tolerate you guys," Willow said, beaming at her two friends in response to their words about why she kept them around.
Mason hung out while Willow and Eddie went through the racks to find clothes appropriate for the colder weather for Eddie, and Willow watched Eddie critically as he modeled the coat she had picked out. "Let's see if the next size is here... You want a coat that will last a couple of winters, at least, right? Otherwise, the color and style look nice on you, in my humble opinion."
She listened as Mason and Eddie discussed doing a movie outing for all the new recruits, and Willow said, "I'm definitely in for that! I'm sure the teachers won't mind us doing something like that. It's a typical teenager thing to do, after all."
Not that they were typical teenagers, but she was certain they'd be able to curb any troublesome antics. She had already gotten grounded for a weekend after being part of that pranking group at the beginning of the school year. Willow wasn't interested in getting back on Sierra's bad side.
...Still, that evening had been a little thrilling.
"I kind of hope we get a nice snowstorm at some point this year," Willow admitted. "Being stuck at home while snow swirls around outside, not having to go anywhere... Having movies playing all day while baking during a blizzard is the best!"

Mason chuckled as they all teased each other, and he let it lie as Willow critically looked over Eddie while he was modeling the coat she had originally picked out.
"Yeah, that looks good on you, man," Mason agreed. With a crooked grin as Willow began looking for the next size up, he asked, "Eddie, you planning on growing anymore?"
Just like that, plans for a potential evening out to the movies with the new recruits was in the works. Mason really hoped that the others would be enthusiastic enough to join Eddie, Willow, and him to the movies one evening.
Willow mentioned getting a nice snowstorm at some point during the winter, and Mason fidgeted just a touch. "As long as we really don't have to go anywhere, I'm down for that, too," he said. "I can't... really do anything in the cold..."
He actually wasn't sure how the school days would be. He hadn't yet experienced a New England winter with his abilities.

a backless dress and some beat up sneaks shut up and dance -- walk the moon words: 154 notes: nada Eddie smiled when his friends mentioned that the coat looked good on him, thanking them, but listened when Willow mentioned that they should look for the next size up. "This could probably last me a couple of winters, if we don't find the next size," he said. "I think I'm about done growing, anyway. I'm not that one," he added, jerking a thumb in Mason's direction.
He was excited about the idea of an all new recruit outing, and was glad that the other two at least were interested in it as well. Eddie figured he could probably start planning something, maybe before the really cold weather started brewing, especially since Mason fidgeted at the idea of a snowstorm.
"We won't let you freeze, don't worry," Eddie said, a touch of seriousness in his teasing tone. Lowering his voice, Eddie asked, "How... How bad is it for you, anyway? Like, how are you in cold weather?"

Tag: Foxtrot IncognitoWords: 194 Notes: I'm good to wrap this up/have this be Willow's last post, if you guys are? Willow glanced back and forth between Eddie and Mason, giggling as she murmured, "Yeah, Mason, you're super tall..." before giving up on finding the next jacket size. If Eddie was okay with the coat for a winter or two, then she'd be good with it too.
The talk turned to the cold, and Willow listened to her friends thoughtfully. She would never want either of them uncomfortable, but she was conscious of the fact that she probably couldn't invite Mason to a snowball fight after a snowstorm. Perhaps a short one, but she would be a little too worried about him.
"No, we won't," Willow said to Mason, agreeing with Eddie's words about not letting him freeze. "We'll spend more days in front of the fireplace with blankets wrapped around us, with movies playing... Or music, Eddie, you play music, right?" They should totally plan a karaoke night. She bet she could get some of the teachers involved, too. Bobby and Kurt, at least, would probably join in.
"Well, then is this the coat?" Willow asked. "We can get you matching gloves and a hat here, too. Then it's off to the cupcake shop...!"

178 words | Critter Foxtrot | Sounds good to me! This can be the last post or Eddie can wrap it up. Mason took the teasing about his height in stride, finding it completely normal. He did sober up a bit when Eddie asked him more seriously as to what happens in the cold to Mason, and Mason took a few seconds to think of an answer.
"I get... very slow," Mason said, his words quiet. "Sluggish and sleepy, really. My body legit tries to go into hibernation. Obviously if I fall asleep somewhere at home, that's no problem, but if I'm out somewhere or stuck at school..." He shrugged, trailing off. It went unsaid that it would be dangerous if he fell asleep outside in the middle of a snowstorm.
The pair before him seemed to make a decision about Eddie's winter jacket, and Willow was more than game to find the matching accessories in order to wrap the shopping up so they could go and have cupcakes.
Mason grinned to himself at the turn of the conversation and said, "The gloves I found were on a kiosk over to the left of the store," before leading his friends that way.
