Date: Friday, September 15, 2023 Tag: open! Words: 164 Willow was distracted from her homework again.
She couldn't help it. The autumn air was nice and crisp, with the scent of leaves blowing through her window. It was the perfect afternoon to soar with the clouds, pretend to join a gaggle of geese heading south, or even just roll around in the grass. It was just so much more interesting to watch the outside dance with the season than to figure out the answer to 'y' in the latest algebra equation.
Willow sighed and chewed on the end of her pencil, trying to refocus her mind on her math homework. She attempted to psych herself up, to tell herself that the sooner she got her homework done, the sooner she could go outside.
Or maybe she should make some hot chocolate. Apple cider sounded delicious too. She wondered if the adults of the mansion would mind taking the students on a field trip, for lack of a better term, to an apple orchid...

if we could sit together a moment and talk forever just to pass the time i'll meet you there -- owl city words: 241 notes: nada Eddie has been at the Xavier Institute for about three months, and he'd like to think that he gets along well with everyone in the manor. Still, with school starting and all, it was a bit difficult to get to know some of his other housemates well, aside from Roy or Mason (one of which was stuck with Eddie as a roommate, and the other who was still on the newer side of things but the other guy of the new recruits).
Which was the main reason why Eddie was wandering towards the rooms of the female new recruits. He didn't quite know the ladies as well, even if they were all friendly to each other, and Eddie wanted to rectify that.
It took Eddie a moment to gather the courage to knock on one of the doors and he was pleasantly surprised to find Willow.
Willow was arguably one of the friendliest in the manor (maybe even the city), even if she was a little naive. Still, Eddie found her enthusiasm adorable and he guessed she would be one of the first to take Eddie up on his offer.
"Knock, knock," Eddie said, leaning against the threshold of her room. "If you're not too busy, was curious if you wanted to head down to the mall? I have to bolster up my fall and winter wardrobe. Didn't really have either of those seasons back in New Mexico, heh."

Tag: Foxtrot, open! Words: 158 Willow's attention was snapped to her door frame when she heard Eddie speak, and she gave him a bright grin. Her smile faltered only slightly when Eddie mentioned the mall and she heaved a deep breath.
"Why are you offering me a distraction when I need to finish my homework?" she drawled while flopping down on her bed. Her words were complaining but she had a crooked smile for her friend to show she was teasing.
"Wait, you're from New Mexico?" Willow bounced back up, sitting straight, tilting her head as she found out this new information. "Did I know that? I don't remember. And you moved here, to New England, without proper winter clothes? What were you thinking?"
Her grin had returned, even if she glanced back down at her homework and her soldiers slumped. "Eddie, I'd love to go to the mall with you," she said, "but I really do need to finish my homework first."

i would smile as the shivers and chills run down my spine i'll meet you there -- owl city words: 154 notes: nada Eddie grinned when Willow asked him what he was thinking.
"I was thinking I'd just have to get some lovely company to go shopping with," he said. Truth be told, Eddie wasn't one for clothes shopping, hence why he was seeking out some of his more unfamiliar housemates to join him.
Willow, though, didn't seem to want to budge on her homework and Eddie drifted further into the room. Sitting down on the other bed, Eddie tried to take a look at whatever Willow was working on.
"Maybe I can help?" he offered. "I'm not so sure how great I'd be, considering we're both new to Bayville High, but if I can help you finish sooner, then we'd have more time at the mall. What subject are you doing right now?"
Eddie hoped he could remember enough stuff from his freshman year of high school back in Cloudcroft to actually be of some help.

Tag: Foxtrot, open! Words: 169 "Flatterer," Willow said simply to Eddie's comment about lovely company. She wasn't too surprised that he had wandered his way to one of the girls' rooms. What she was surprised at was Eddie actually either being done with his own homework to want to go to the mall or ignoring it enough to do it later.
He offered to help with her homework, and Willow pushed her textbook over to him. "Algebra," she deadpanned. "It's honestly not too bad, I'm just more inclined to daydream than actually do the work. There's only so many times I can find what equals to x until my mind starts to wander."
Willow understood, of course, that practice was the best way to do well in her math class, but having a couple of dozen of similar problems was enough to give her a headache.
She gave Eddie a crooked smile and said, "I mean, if you really want to help, I could use a drink... Maybe hot chocolate? Ever make hot chocolate?"

when your eyes are locked on mine I'll meet you there -- owl city words: 189 notes: nada Eddie's grin stayed plastered on his face when Willow called him a flatterer, his housemate evidently not minding his teasing at all. He could work with that.
His grin did falter when she mentioned algebra and he stared at all the problems her teacher had assigned for homework. As Willow mentioned, the work itself wasn't too bad -- it was still the beginning of the school year, after all -- but it could be tedious. Eddie couldn't blame Willow for spacing out during it.
He was about to offer to try to do half of the problems for her, get it all done sooner, but Willow asked if he would be willing to get her a drink. Eddie quirked a smile at her when she mentioned hot chocolate, a perfect drink for the autumn afternoon, but he said, "Admittedly, no. I think I had the instant powder stuff before, but... Well, didn't have too many opportunities or need to have hot chocolate in New Mexico.
"I'm game to try making it," he added, "but I feel like your palate is much more sophisticated than mine. I wouldn't want to disappoint you."

Tag: FoxtrotWords: 161 Willow did her best not to show it, but she did wrinkle her nose when Eddie mentioned that he had created hot chocolate out of the instant powder packets before. "Those are okay, I guess," she said slowly, "but the best recipe I have for hot chocolate uses an instant pot and sea salt.
"Yeah, I guess hot chocolate wouldn't be a common drink in New Mexico," she said with a light laugh. She took a moment to do another math problem before asking, "What kind of drinks are famous in New Mexico, then?"
Eddie mentioned how he was down to try making hot chocolate for Willow, but she glanced over at him with a crooked smile. "I've a better idea," she said. "Let me get through at least half of my math homework, then we'll visit the mall. I'll get the stuff I need to make us a nice batch of hot chocolate after we get you some winter stuff."

Oh we'll fill the metro skies with country air I'll meet you there -- owl city words: 207 notes: nada Eddie couldn't help but laugh when Willow wrinkled her nose at the idea of instant powder hot chocolate. "Nah, you don't need to lie and say that stuff is okay," he said, "especially when it sounds like you know much better recipes for the drink."
She asked about drinks from New Mexico and he grinned. "For this season, I have the perfect one," he said. "The Chimayó cocktail. Well, we'd do a mocktail since I highly doubt the teachers around here would be okay with us drinking. Aside from the tequila, it's an apple cider-based drink. I know what we can use to substitute the few other alcohol ingredients and can make one pretty well, if I do say so myself."
Willow was doing another couple of math problems before suggesting that she wraps up some of her homework before they go to the mall, then they can get home and celebrate with her version of hot chocolate.
"Perfect!" Eddie agreed. "I mean, it's Friday, you got plenty of time to finish your homework. And, hey, while you work, I can go and double-check to see if we have the mocktail ingredients for the Chimayó drink. You make me your hot chocolate, I'll make you a mocktail."

Tag: FoxtrotWords: 160 Notes: I'm good to wrap this up, and if you wanted to continue it/do a thread at the mall, I'm game! Willow gave Eddie a small smile when he laughed at her wrinkling her nose. She hadn't been able to help it. Fortunately, he seemed to be a good sport about it, taking it in stride.
"Chimayó?" Willow rolled the name off her tongue, trying it out like a taste. She listened with rapt attention as Eddie described the drink, cooing over the idea of the base of it being apple cider.
"That sounds perfect for this season!" she said, already getting excited about giving the drink a try. "Apple cider is delicious anyway, and it's great that you know substitutions for the alcohol stuff, have you ever tried the actual cocktail?" She suddenly raised an eyebrow at him with the question.
Willow scribbled the answer to a couple of more math questions before declaring, "Alright, I'm done for now. Besides, it's Friday. I have all weekend to finish this, right? I'm ready to go to the mall when you are."

and when you close your tired eyes I'll meet you there I'll meet you there I'll meet you there -- owl city words: 153 notes: Good to end this! I'll start a mall thread. Eddie was delighted at Willow's reaction to him describing the Chimayó drink. He laughed when she rambled in excitement for a brief moment, ending with a suspicious tone and question about Eddie drinking alcohol.
"Never had a full cocktail to myself, no," he said, grinning. "Admittedly, I did have an uncle who didn't mind letting me sip his drink at family parties every once in a while."
Eddie watched as Willow did a couple of more math problems before she declared that she was good to go to the mall. He gave her a crooked smile and said, "If you're sure. I'm definitely waiting until Sunday to do my homework, ha!
"If you're really good to go, I'm all set," he said, standing up from his spot on the other bed. "Take your time, though. I'll go and check to see if there are any others around who may want to join us."
