Date: Wednesday, August 23, 2023 Tag: Bayville High people! Words: 188 Notes: An open thread to get people -- students and teachers alike -- of the high school to mingle. Sierra Parker gazed around at her surroundings critically. For the high school's open house, it was going rather well. Of course, there were those certain teachers and older students who believed that she wouldn't be able to handle her new position, but she would deal with them if need be. For the most part, Sierra had a decent group of supporters, and the rest would be brought over to her side -- either won or by force -- eventually.
At the moment, she was strolling around the gymnasium, which had been set up as a makeshift marketplace with stalls sporting Bayville High's many activities and clubs. Every student was encouraged to join an extracurricular, and the open house provided the students the opportunity to learn more about what they could do, as well as sign up immediately. Lunch was provided, with portable barbecues stationed just outside the gymnasium. Indeed, the doors leading to the outdoor tracks and fields were open, the scents of hot dogs and hamburgers drifting through the air.
Sierra walked past the booths, granting members of her new student body nods and small smiles as they browsed.

Todd never went to the open houses when he was in high school, and he hadn't been planning on going now but it was pointed out to him that he was part of the staff and it would probably make a good first impression for him to show up. Todd had offered any of the kids at the boarding house a ride if they wanted before begrudgingly going to the open house.
At this point, he was just kind of wandering around the gymnasium. Some teacher had asked for his help when prepping the barbeques for lunch, but otherwise hadn't said a word to him once they were done. Todd supposed that was a win. Being ignored was better than being scorned.
Todd spotted Parker making her own way around the gymnasium, putting her best foot forward, so to speak, and Todd only gave her a nod when she happened to look his way.
He wondered how long he needed to make an appearance here before he could high-tail it home.

Cherry had been given some money for clothes shopping but instead she had kept the money and rifled through the lost and found finding half a wardrobe at the mansion for free. Free was good Kutz had taught her, anything free it didn't matter a person should always take advantage of free. She had come on a bus with the other students from the mansion who would be attending Bayville high, of course Cherry was repeating her tenth grade year again she hadn't moaned about it once. It was embarrassing though being her age and in classes with teenagers younger than her.
She wasn't sure what to do at a open house so she hung back after the other kids to see if Roy would perhaps walk around with her for the event. She trusted him and it didn't have a lick to do with how attractive he was. Hydro

"Bond, where have you been?!"
"Apologies sir, had some...family trouble."
Lance sheepishly had tried to straight up his clothes, feeling the stern gaze of the baseball coach as he did. He probably looked a bit of a mess after the brief scuffle with his younger brother. As part of the co-ed baseball coaches, Lance had gone out of his way to get to the open house as soon as possible, dressing somewhat business casual in dark blue jeans, button up white shirt, and nice black shoes. He wanted to make a good first impression, but encountering his brother outside after two long years had gone as well as could be expected; no sooner had the two crossed paths did it turn into a heated argument that soon became physical, a nice punch to the jaw left Lance's lower jaw feeling sore and a nice bruise beginning to form as well as a little disheveled. But, his brother wasn't without a few bruises of his own before one of the other teachers had separated them.
So, the scolding he was getting for being late was more than warranted. Getting a "Don't let it happen again!" to add to it, Lance quickly nodded in understanding as he finished straightening himself up a bit. Of course, it also didn't help that his body became quite literally heated and some of those odd rocky rashes had shown. Luckily most of them were well hidden aside from a couple patches on his neck. Just what he needed...
A few snickers from a handful of students nearby didn't help the situation either.
'Good first impression Lance.' He scolded himself mentally, sighing softly before forcing the most genuine of smiles he could muster to start talking with students. Faking a smile was something he could do, he had done that for years.

Laurie had almost refused to go to the open house. Being around Olivia and Adam had been one thing, but a horde of people in the gymnasium was another thing entirely. She stood out like a sore thumb, and though she was comfortable with her housemates she was no where near comfortable enough of people seeing her in all her blue glory.
But, she also could not not go see what the school had to offer.
After going back and forth on the decision she had informed Todd she would be going, but she would just go by her own means. She took her time finding something to wear and making herself look decent, wasting time as she tried to push down her nervousness of the event. But, she couldn't avoid it much longer when she found no other reason to lengthen her procrastinating. Sighing softly to herself, the blue flier finally left the house and took flight, keeping low and at a medium speed before reaching the high school, landing a little ways away from the gymnasium as she scanned her gaze over the crowded building. So many people...Laurie's self-esteem began to kick in, beginning to second guess her agreement to come to the open house and ready to reside herself to just waiting until the school year started to deal with the stares and whispers. "No you can do this Laurie, you can do this." She tried to motivate herself, swallowing her fear and finally making her way towards the gymnasium doors.
The moment she stepped inside, she found the gym already bustling with activity, and for a moment she saw no one she recognized other than Todd among the crowd. Taking a deep breath, the blue skinned teen forced herself to continue moving, beginning to look over what the open house had to offer.

Roy came to the open house with many of the other new recruits, one of the other teachers dropping them off since Sierra had to be there early to start the actual event. Willow had bolted nearly as soon as the bus had stopped, saying something about checking out the club stalls before following her nose to the barbeque, and Roy was sure that Mason would go off to visit his mother, for a couple of examples.
Now that he was standing there, he wasn't quite sure what to do.
He had never been in a school this big, let alone a public school at all. Rather, with his hydration issues, the orphanage had decided that Roy would be better off homeschooled with the caregivers as he was growing up. Even now, Roy had a bottle of water on him, although Sierra assured him there would still be plenty of options to keep him hydrated and cool during the open house. It was basically the reason as to why he was there at all.
Now, he was staring at the entrance of the gymnasium. Roy noticed that Cherry was also hanging back so, with a small shrug to her, he said, "Shall we? Or would you rather explore on your own?"

Olivia already felt more involved in Bayville High than she did in her previous school, although it was through no fault of her own.
She stood off to the side of the gymnasium, trying to figure out what to do. She and Adam had arrived with Todd, and tried not to think of how strange it would be that her landlord was also one of her school's janitors, and she wasn't quite sure where either of the guys went. If they went off to hide somewhere and didn't let her in on the secret, she may forget half of next month's rent. Olivia wasn't even quite sure when and if Laurie would arrive--
Well, scratch that thought. Olivia caught sight of Laurie entering the place, moving forward to look around despite the stares she received. Olivia tried to catch Laurie's gaze to give her a smile and a wave, letting her know where at least one of her housemates were, before straightening up from her own spot.
Olivia put on an easy smile and began to wander the many stalls that were set up in the gym. She may as well make a good first impression, perhaps see what Bayville High had to offer in both clubs and future date prospects.
She did pass by the co-ed baseball stall and recognized Lance. She was about to greet him like a normal human being but, instead, what she blurted out to him when she got the chance was, "Did you get into a fight?"
How the hell did she miss a fight?

236 words | open! | Mason is also around! Noelle did her best to appear to be in her element. She had been at similar school events like this before (on both sides, even, as a teacher and as a parent) so the open house itself wasn't a problem. Socializing usually wasn't a problem for her either, as Noelle prided herself on being able to read a room and respond accordingly. It came with raising and dealing with teenagers on a regular basis.
Still, it was always a little daunting to meet and greet new people, adults and students alike.
Noelle was among the club stalls, opting to become the book club coordinator for Bayville High. She caught Sierra's gaze when the principal was making her rounds, sharing a smile with the other woman, and keeping an eye out for her own son. Mason wouldn't be interested in the book club, Noelle was sure, but she hoped he would come by and say hello. Maybe one of his housemates would be interested in joining the club.
Like how she imagined the Xavier Institute to be, Bayville High seemed to be an eclectic mix. While she knew of Sierra with her son's connection, of course, there was also Mr. Tolansky and Noelle tried to keep her face impassive when she was certain she caught sight of a bright, blue-skinned student wandering around the stalls. Vaguely, Noelle wondered if the blue-skinned student was one of the Xavier Institute's students...

| WHEN I WAKE UP, I'M AFRAID, SOMEBODY ELSE MIGHT TAKE MY PLACE... |
Adam had accidentally gotten separated from Olivia and Todd when they had all arrived at the high school's open house. Todd had gone off in a different direction, most likely needing to do something with the event itself seeing as he was one of the janitors and all, and Olivia was much more social than Adam was. He would have stuck with her -- or even Laurie had their other housemate arrived with them -- but the crowds were a little much and he wasn't sure if he'd be welcome to follow her around.
As such, he was kind of just wandering around on his own and was staring at all of the clubs that the high school had to offer without really looking at them.
Eventually, he did make his way towards some of the less flashy club stalls (he had been a little startled at the robotics club, what with them having a little robot that waved and spoke a few repetitive phrases) and found himself by the book club. Adam looked at the list of possible books that the club would read and discuss throughout the year, stating that the list itself was always open rather than definite, and he gave the teacher by the stall a small smile and nod. There was a girl with bushy hair by the stall as well, and Adam wasn't sure whether he should ask the girl or the teacher questions about the club.
Eventually, Adam just asked aloud, "How do we sign up?" in the hopes that someone would answer him.

Well. This was going to be an interesting year, she could already tell.
Helen tapped her foot from the side of the gymnasium, gazing at all of the students and faculty milling about. Truth be told, it was tradition for Bayville High to have an open house, but it was generally only a couple of hours before it was over. The new principal included a barbecue this year, most likely to try to win over the student body.
And being sure everyone was included, Helen was sure, including the mutant part of the population.
Helen pursed her lips as she gazed at the students. There was a young lady who just arrived not too long ago, her skin a bright blue, and the new janitor himself was tinged green... Helen shook her head. Mutants were becoming more and more prominent in the coming years, another thing Helen couldn't do much about.
Except, perhaps, keep a closer eye on them.
The principal actually walked by her and Helen smiled as she greeted, "Hello, Sierra. The open house seems to be going well. How are you doing?" ( Gigabyte in particular, open)

Tag: Nightcrawler:sweeney in particular, but anyone is welcome to approach Sierra! Words: 294 Sierra was rather glad that she decided to keep and expand upon the open house that Bayville High reportedly had every year. It allowed both her and the students she lived with a bit of a helping hand when it came to the new school year. Not only with figuring out where their classrooms all were, but also with the types of teachers and other students they'd be interacting with throughout the year.
It also gave Sierra an idea as to how the student body would react to new students, some of which were obviously mutants. She caught sight of the new recruits that had decided to join the open house, and exchanged a smile with Noelle Perez that stayed as she passed by both Todd Tolanskey and a young woman with blue skin.
Sierra hoped her presence helped alleviate any possible tension -- although there were a few students she already had to give a raised eyebrow and stern stare, her mind cataloging their faces and names just in case she would be seeing them more in her office in the future -- but she was aware it could still be an interesting year. As far as she knew, mutants in Bayville High had always been a, "Don't ask, don't tell," sort of policy, and Sierra hoped she would be able to help change that to allow everyone to safely receive an education, no matter what was in their DNA.
Upon hearing her name, Sierra turned and smiled, greeting the teacher with, "Hello, Helen. I'm doing well, thank you, and I hope you are, too. I'm glad to see the open house is doing well. Admittedly, I was a little nervous about it. Are you ready and looking forward to being back in the classroom?"

Tag: Golem & Noelle Perez in particular, open! Words: 286 Willow had darted off into the open house nearly as soon as she stepped foot out of the car that had brought along the new recruits that wanted to visit the school. Although she knew that most students weren't looking forward to the start of a new school year, she was genuinely excited to see what Bayville High had to offer. It was her first foray into a public school, and she already had a handful of ready-made friends in her housemates, so she was confident it would be a good year.
At this point, she was just eager to meet more people and see what kind of clubs or activities she could join.
Willow greeted most of the people she passed by with a brilliant grin, more than once almost absent-mindedly following her nose to outside for the barbeque. She kept herself on track each time, vowing to sign up for at least one club before figuring out lunch.
"Good morning!" she said to the teacher by the book club booth. The book club seemed to be the most intriguing to Willow, and she liked looking at the list of potential books that they would be reading.
Without thinking too hard about it, Willow signed up for the club and she was in the middle of reading the summary of one of the book displays when she heard another voice asking about signing up for the club. Glancing up behind her, Willow said to the tall student, "You sign up on the sheet, see?"
She smiled and handed him the pen that was by the sheet. "Think that's all you do. Right?" She turned her attention to the teacher that was manning the little stall.

She smiled, oh no, she thought to herself, why was she smiling? It quickly faded as she through up her hand at Roy walking toward her, "I'd like to just walk with you if thats cool?" She had agreed to stay at the mansion and even enroll at Bayville for her not him, yup she told herself because there was no way she was even remotely crushing on this boy.
"You might have to get use to me blue hair boy, you're all I know so, let's go," she turned to walk with him letting her red hair fall over her face to hide the light heat in her cheeks, "what um grade are you in?" Hydro

The book club had attracted a decent handful of incoming students, and Noelle shared a smile with the few who came by and signed up. At one point, there was a young lady with thick brown hair who was not shy in greeting Noelle with a big good morning.
"Good morning to you as well," Noelle said, sharing the student's grin. "Let me know if you have any questions."
Of course, a book club was rather straightforward. They would vote on the books they would read (although Noelle had a few of her favorites on display, ones that she hoped would entice high schoolers) and then discuss it within the following couple of weeks.
Another student shuffled over, one that looked a little lost amid the open house, but he gravitated towards the book club. After a moment or two, he asked aloud how to sign up and the young lady helpfully showed him the sheet and gave him the pen. She then turned to Noelle to ask if there was anything else to do to sign-up, and Noelle shook her head.
"You got it right," Noelle said. "Simply signing up on the sheet is good enough for me. You'll get notified when the first meeting will be and then it will be weekly from there. I'm Ms. Perez, by the way. What are your names? Perhaps one of you will be in my English literature classes."

Tag: @cherrybomb in particular Words: 274 Cherry asked if it would be alright to walk around with Roy, and he said, "Yeah, that's cool. Let's figure this place out together. I, uh, actually have never been here before either, so..." He glanced back up at the building before them and took a deep breath. "This should be interesting."
Roy chuckled when Cherry mentioned that he'd have to get used to her, and he said, "No worries. And I'm sure you'll get used to all the others soon enough, too." He was referring to the other new recruits, of course, but he was conscious of the fact that there were plenty of other students milling about. He wasn't quite sure how public the knowledge of what the Xavier Institute's purpose was. "You've been here for about a month so far, right?"
Roy wasn't sure how often Cherry hung out with any of the others at the Xavier Institute, but he was sure some of their more extroverted housemates -- like Eddie and maybe Willow -- would have done their best to be friendly to Cherry.
"I'm going into tenth," Roy said when Cherry asked about what grade he was in. "Did you get a chance to get your schedule all set for the upcoming year?"
He glanced around at the booths and stalls for the clubs and activities, unsure if he would even join anything. On one hand, he would probably be encouraged to join something to get used to the student body more, be more social, all that stuff, but on the other hand...
Well, Roy wasn't sure how he and his mutation would react on a regular basis amid the crowds.
