underneath the setting sun something wicked your way comes tags: Nightcrawler:seer and technically open, but Hydro and Incognito would be cool since they both have interacted with foxtrot throughout during this little plot
scream -- BoA words: 325 notes: very late Fri Oct 14, 2023. Eddie took a deep breath and stayed as still as possible until he was sure Roy was asleep. It was a little late, with the lights in the manor having gone out a couple of hours ago. Eddie had a meeting time with Seer and he would have to leave soon if he hoped to make it on time.
He just hoped that he wouldn't disturb anyone in the manor. Even Sierra should be asleep at this time. Rather, he really hoped that Sierra was asleep at this time – he wouldn't have a hope of sneaking out if the technopath was awake.
When he felt it was safe to do so, Eddie crept out of his bed, always glancing at Roy to be sure his roommate stayed still, his breathing even. Eddie dressed in his Danger Room uniform, finding that it was warm enough for the autumn air and was simple to move in. His headphones were snug around his neck, wirelessly connected to his phone and music of choice just in case. Despite texting off and on with Seer for the past couple of days, Eddie was still conscious of the fact that he very well could be walking into a trap.
…Well, perhaps not a trap itself, but a trick. Someone, most likely a fellow high schooler who may be a little too into astrology and whether the planets were in retrograde or something, who advertised being able to speak to the dead for the past couple of years could very well just be using it as an excuse to get some extra money.
Eddie took a deep breath, trying not to be too nervous. He knew self-defense, even the basics if he didn't want to count on his mutant abilities. He'd be fine. He knew he'd be fine.
But, dammit, he was still shaking as he scaled the walls around the manor and took off towards the meeting location at the cemetery.

Tag: Foxtrot, Incognito if he'd like to join Words: 163 Notes: Totally down to join! Roy had plenty of practice pretending to be asleep. It was a skill he had learned growing up in the orphanage. In all the time he had spent growing up there, caretakers had come and gone, some that were strict enough that feigning to be asleep saved Roy some grief.
It was simple enough to fall back on that skill when Eddie began moving about and dressing late at night.
Roy waited a good five minutes before moving himself, getting changed into his own Danger Room uniform and sticking a light jacket over it. He walked carefully, quietly, poking his head out into the hallway to be sure he stayed far enough behind Eddie.
He did it a little too well considering he wasn't sure which way Eddie went after hopping the fence.
He took a deep breath, trying to quickly figure out what to do and mentally berated himself for taking a detour to the kitchen for a couple of water bottles.

"He headed east."
Mason stepped out from by the closest oak tree, letting his camouflage momentarily drop for Roy's benefit. "Eddie and I have weight training and lunch together. Thought I saw him texting someone about meeting tonight, so..." He shrugged. "Figured if I misunderstood, I could chalk up being sleepy tomorrow because of the cooler weather."
Mason was in his own Danger Room uniform, the fabric being a special-enough material to not hinder his own camouflage abilities in the slightest. He noticed that Roy had the same idea, spying the water bottles. The taller of the pair placed his palms on the wall and said, "We're going after him, right?"
He scaled the wall while using his balancing and chameleon-like abilities, dropping down on the other side to wait for Roy. Once the other made it over, Mason clapped Roy's shoulder and the began heading down the sidewalk, intent on catching up with Eddie just enough to be sure he wasn't getting himself into trouble.
"We probably should have woken up a teacher, huh?" Mason suddenly said with a chuckle. "Gotta admit, though, this is kind of exciting."

who am I? just a dream. sent to take you, shake you, make you scream scream -- BoA words: 188 notes: thanks guys! Of course the meeting place was in a cemetery.
Eddie supposed it was appropriate. He was going to meet with a supposed medium, after all.
"Would make more sense if it was the Cloudcroft cemetery," Eddie muttered to himself as he reached the entrance. The entrance itself was locked, the gates having a large chain and padlock around them, but it was simple enough to reach up and haul himself over the top. After getting over the wall around the manor, the cemetery fence was a piece of cake.
Eddie took a deep breath and landed lightly on the grass of the cemetery. He moved slowly, being careful to keep both out of the few streetlamps lighting the place and to not step on anyone's graves out of respect. He spotted the small building that was the main office for the grave keepers and landscapers and glanced at his texts to find the directions that Seer had given him earlier in the day.
A right down the main path, off the one-way road, towards a standing gravestone that had the shape of a dove carved in the material…

There was a figure standing right behind the gravestone, their body covered by a dark cloak and obscuring their shape and face. A nearby, large oak tree was stretched up into the night, its shade helping to obscure the figure.
"Mr. Ross." The figure's voice was simultaneously light and deep, almost as if there should be an echo but there wasn't. They tilted their head up just enough so the hood did not hide their crooked grin. "You wished to contact the dead."
The figure gestured to behind them, showing a clearing. "Let's not waste time, then, shall we? Come closer, my friend."
They led the way into the clearing as a small table was brought over, hovering, floating from behind another gravestone. The table was placed down and two chairs, one at a time, were then brought over. Seer gestured to one seat for Eddie to take before sitting down themselves in the other.
"Now, you mentioned who you wish to contact have been passed away for about thirteen years at this point…?" ( Foxtrot, Incognito, Hydro)

Tag: Foxtrot, Incognito, Nightcrawler:seer Words: 200 Roy did not jump, thank you very much, when Mason had appeared from beyond the tree by the manor's fence. He wasn't too surprised that Mason, also being close with Eddie, had noticed their friend's odd behavior from the past few days.
Roy was also just really thankful that he wouldn't be going after Eddie alone.
In fact, Mason seemed to really be enjoying this, although he was sure Mason didn't want any of them to get into trouble. Nevertheless, Mason was game to follow Eddie as he climbed over the fence. Roy liquidized his legs, using them as water jets to propel him over the fence, and land semi-neatly next to Mason.
"We probably should have," Roy agreed when Mason mentioned waking up a teacher as they traveled east, "but... Well, Eddie wouldn't have been able to follow through with whatever he's doing tonight. He would probably want to keep trying if it's that important to him." And, Roy imagined, that Eddie would resent Mason and Roy if they snitched.
While he didn't like the circumstances, Roy would help his friend see through whatever he was doing, help make sure he didn't get hurt, and would face consequences together.

Mason tried not to snicker aloud when he noticed that Roy had jumped at his appearance. He nodded along to Roy's insight to Eddie's thoughts and reasonings while the pair took off after their friend.
Fortunately, it seemed that Eddie was too focused on going forward to really look too far behind him. Mason and Roy were a decent length away, able to keep up without giving themselves away.
Mason was a bit surprised when they spotted Eddie going into the cemetery, though. "Think he's meeting with Seer," Mason murmured to Roy. "At least, I caught Eddie looking thoughtful at the school's bulletin board earlier in the month, the one that had Seer's services advertised? The person who supposedly can contact the dead?"
He paused. "What if that's an actual thing?"
He was more than curious as to what Eddie's motivations for their late night trip was. Why would Eddie feel the need to contact the dead?

should I let you awaken? I can't resist scream -- BoA words: 178 notes: nada Seer mentioned that Eddie wished to contact the dead, and he said, "Well, that's what you advertised."
He had been hoping to be able to recognize Seer's voice, but the idea of what they could do -- coupled with the fact that he was scared as hell that this could actually work -- didn't make him try too hard.
He followed Seer to the clearing, his steps faltering momentarily as a small table and chairs all but floated over from behind another tomb. It took him a few seconds to actually sit down, half expecting whatever sorcery that had brought the chair over would yank it out from behind him at the last second.
Seer asked about the timing of those who were dead, and he nodded. "Yes. Um, do I pay you first? I'm really not sure how this is supposed to work. Tried doing something like this years ago and... Well, I was told the spirits couldn't be contacted without being compensated first."
He had realized pretty quickly that supposed medium from his past had been a fraud.

"I do not charge unless you are satisfied," Seer said, and a small crystal ball came floating over to land gently on the table. "I appreciate how conscientious you are of it, though."
Small dots of lights zipped around the inside of the crystal ball. There were small pinpricks of air holes in the ball. As if anticipating a question, Seer said, "Those are fireflies. I've found they help the atmosphere.
"Now, who did you wish to contact--" Seer's question cut itself off as they looked over in the distance, slightly floating above the ground as they stood. "You did not come alone as I told you to... The spirits are not happy with an audience."
Indeed, from behind Seer, stones and vases of leftover flowers from other tombs began floating, and one such vase of flowers went hurtling past Eddie's shoulder to attack the unwanted audience.

Tag: Foxtrot Incognito Nightcrawler:seer Words: 218 It actually took a few moments for Roy to remember who Seer was. Mason's description of the high school's bulletin board and what this supposed Seer advertised helped jog his memory.
"We've seen crazier things," Roy said quietly when Mason asked what if contacting the dead was actually a thing.
Trying to contact the dead would be something that Roy would think Eddie would like to try, but as a group thing. Something that he would consider fun, as if it was a carnival attraction. Roy wasn't sure what to think of Eddie taking this so seriously, though.
Roy and Mason made it to the cemetery, of all places, and continued to discreetly follow behind Eddie. Still staying a decent distance away, Roy spotted Eddie speaking to a hooded figure, their tones low enough so he couldn't make out too many of their words. Roy was honestly ready to let Eddie do his thing and hope that nothing went awry. Ideally, Eddie would finish up with this supposed Seer person, then they'd all make their way back to the manor where Roy would have to race Eddie back to their room so Eddie was none the wiser that Mason and he had followed him--
A flower vase was suddenly being hurtled through the air towards him and Mason.

Mason paused when Roy mentioned that they had seen crazier things, which was absolutely true. Mason himself wasn't quite sure if he believed in psychics and mediums of the non-mutant variety (in all honesty, anyone who claimed and actually did well as a supposed medium being a mutant would make much more sense to Mason than those kinds of people having a "third eye"), but he guessed it could be a thing.
"Do you think any of the manor's teachers know mutants who can talk to ghosts--" Mason's whispered question to Roy was interrupted by the sight of Seer floating before Eddie and looking over in Roy's and Mason's general direction.
A flower vase was soaring in their direction, and Mason covered Roy, angling his shoulder so the vase itself bounced off of him. It smarted, but it didn't really hurt too much.
Considering their cover was blown, Mason raised his hands passively as he slowly went closer to Eddie and Seer. "We don't mean to, uh, interrupt," he said. "Just wanted to make sure our friend's ass wasn't in trouble."

look around you you're forsaken scream -- BoA words: 202 notes: nada Eddie couldn't help but quirk a smile when Seer mentioned the fireflies in the little crystal ball thing that they had. Fireflies inside what was probably a fake crystal ball didn't exactly scream "professional," but Eddie did find that Seer seemed to know more about what they were doing than any other fraud mediums that he had encountered in the past.
Seer then asked who Eddie wanted to contact and he was about to answer, but Seer cut themselves off. Eddie blinked, bewildered when they claimed that he did not come alone. "What? What do you mean? I did come alone--Whoa!"
He ducked as a vase of flowers went careening past him, and his heart sank when he heard a couple of familiar voices in response.
Eddie swallowed hard as he saw Roy and Mason appear, and he wasn't sure whether to be upset at them or nervous for them as he caught sight of more floating stones and vases. To his friends, he hissed, "My ass is fine! Both of you, go home!
"Seer, I promise I didn't know they were following me," Eddie added, spinning back around to look at Seer. "Tell the spirits to put down the, uh, flowers."

Too many. There were too many people around. Seer could sense the animosity of the spirits in the graveyard, the spirits who could sense the worry, the distrust, the protectiveness of the uninvited guests. Seer took a deep breath, glanced at the three teenagers and tried to raise her hands against the floating vases and stones.
"I can't control the spirits," Seer said, but they did turn towards one of the closest flower vases, almost as if they could block it. "Put it down! Please! They mean no harm--"
The next vase, and a couple of stones for good measure, were thrown towards Eddie, Roy, and Mason. Seer ducked out of the way, and a stone was blocked from hitting them.
With a murmur of, "Thank you, Salem," another stone was blocked from hitting Seer, but the trio of teenagers most likely did not have the same such protections. ( Foxtrot Hydro Incognito)

Tag: Incognito Foxtrot Nightcrawler:seer Words: 210 "Shit...!" Roy ducked away from the flying flower vase, but Mason took the hit. Roy didn't have a chance to ask the other if he was alright -- although, fortunately, Mason seemed just fine -- before their cover was completely blown.
As predicted, Eddie wasn't thrilled to see them, but Roy didn't take the time to dwell on that. It was good to know that Eddie seemed alright, as far as he said, but Roy couldn't feel guilty about trying to make sure his friend was okay. Even if, you know, Mason's and Roy's presence seemed to ruin things.
Roy had never been one to believe in ghosts, but he couldn't quite think of another explanation at the projectiles that were being thrown their way. Seer appeared to be trying to talk to the spirits, but Roy guessed that the time for talking was over.
"Head's up...!" Roy dashed away from Mason's side, trying to give them more room to work with, and one of his water bottles burst with his mental command. The water floated beside Roy, and he directed small portions of it like darts, using the stones and vases of flowers like a target board to knock them out of the air before they could be hurtled at them.

Pissing off some spirits seemed to be on par for the month of Halloween.
Mason frowned at Eddie's easy dismissal of them -- and, yeah, so what Eddie was doing wasn't really any of Roy's or Mason's business, but he couldn't fault his friends for worrying about him -- but he didn't quite have time to respond to Eddie. Instead, Mason was ducking away from another vase, quite conscious of the ghosts or spirits or whatever having plenty of ammo from the nearby graves.
Roy went one way and Mason went the other, with Roy using his hydrokinesis to knock out projectiles before the spirits could throw most of them. Mason turned on his camouflage to get even closer to Seer. While he vaguely heard Seer mention that they were unable to actually control the spirits, clearly the spirits respected Seer enough to let them do their medium thing without much of a bother (unless an unexpected audience showed up).
Mason, once he was close enough, ducked down behind Seer and tried to hold onto them, pinning their arms down to their side. "Think the ghosts will back off now?" he asked.
