And he was lost. That hadn't taken long at all.
Adam huffed as he looked up and down the hallway. He had just been in the building with the gymnasium and shower rooms and had come here hoping that he remembered correctly which building had the cafeteria. He was sure it was this one, but there had been some commotion this morning with the furniture.
(Olivia had told him last night when he caught her returning late to the boarding house what had gone down, and Adam wasn't a snitch.)
At this point, it was in between periods and the hallways were rapidly emptying out as other students rushed to their next classes. He could very well grab someone to ask where to go, but there were so many people moving that he was just standing frozen in the middle of the hallway.
Maybe someone, even a teacher or maybe Todd himself, would realize Adam was very much realize that Adam was not moving and offer some assistance.

Words: 245 Tags: Golem, openThis was way too chaotic for him.
Noah was up against a wall, sandwiched between the edge of the row of lockers and the hallway's corner, doing his best not to feel too overwhelmed. He had survived the first couple of classes, partly in thanks to some well-meaning classmates and teachers who were a little too used to giving out directions on the first day of school, but there were still too many places that Noah could get turned around.
Then there was the matter of all the students that stampeded through the hallways in between classes. Noah got jostled more than once by bigger and older students, snatches of thoughts about homework and potential dates invading his mind whenever he brushed up against someone else.
It was exhausting.
The crowds began to die down a little after the warning bell rang, and Noah glanced up and down the emptying hallway, trying to find someone who looked like they may be going to the cafeteria. He had a little notebook, the cover proclaiming with a handwritten note "I'M MUTE," and gingerly stepped away from the wall. There was a taller student in the middle of the hallway looking like he wasn't in a rush to go anywhere and Noah took a deep breath to steel himself before going up to him.
Giving him a small wave, Noah showed him the cover of the notebook before going to one of the pages to write out, "Cafeteria?"

Adam blinked as the hallways began to empty out and a smaller teen (or did someone lose a child?) approached him. That was surprising in and of itself, as there weren't too many in the school yet who cared to come up to him on their own, probably because he didn't talk too much.
He stared at the notebook the other teen showed him, reading the words that proclaimed the other to be mute before the kid flipped to a page that simply mentioned the cafeteria. Adam figured that the kid was also looking for the lunchroom and could only shrug.
"I don't know either," Adam admitted. "I'm supposed to go to the cafeteria too, but I just started at Bayville High this year."
He took another few seconds to just stand there before looking over the other kid's head and realizing that the hallways were all but deserted now. Shrugging to either himself or the other kid, Adam started walking in a random direction. "C'mon. Let's see if we can find it."

Words: 155 Tags: Golem, openThe taller student didn't seem to mind that Noah approached him, but he also revealed that he was new and didn't know where the cafeteria was. Noah's shoulders sagged at that.
Then the taller student shrugged and appeared to pick a random direction to start walking. The student seemed game to go and find the cafeteria, and Noah darted after him to keep up. Every one step the taller student took Noah had to take about two and a half to keep pace.
When he could, Noah got the other student's attention again, revealing one of the first pages in his notebook with the standard, "My name is Noah Beckett."
He wanted to ask more, see if the other student was getting just as lost as he was during the first day, but Noah refrained from reaching out and trying to speak to the other in a more straight-forward way than just writing down things.

After a few seconds of walking, Adam glanced down at the smaller student when his attention was snagged. Adam slowed down a little so the kid didn't need to nearly jog to keep up with him, and he read the page the other student showed him.
"Adam Clayton," he said in response. "Guess we both got the bargain version of the school tour..."
Seriously, the cafeteria was probably one of the biggest parts of the school. How the hell could neither of them remember where it was?
Adam wasn't sure what hallway they were going down, the lockers starting to fade out until the hallway ended with double-doors leading outside. That probably wasn't right. The cafeteria was inside the school. Maybe it was part of another building of Bayville High?
"Any idea where we are?" Adam asked, glancing around to see if there was anyone else who could help the pair of them.

Tag: Golem HushWords: 151 Willow came bursting through the double doors and into the hallway, her hands on her head in a desperate attempt to smooth her hair back down after being naturally blow-dried from the autumn wind. As such, she nearly crashed into Adam and Noah.
"Oh, hi! Sorry guys," she said, darting around the pair. "I was just trying to hurry to the cafeteria for lunch. Having gym class right before lunch really saps my energy!"
To the untrained eye, Willow would probably still look like she had plenty of energy to spare, but she was moving a little slowly for her. She was trying to conserve what was left of her energy until she got some actual food in her stomach.
"I hope you two are having a good first day," she said, glancing at both Adam and Noah in turn with a bright smile. "Hope you're not getting lost like me!"

Words: 259 Tags: Golem CritterNoah nodded, giving the taller student a tentative smile when the other also introduced himself (and made a comment about how the pair of them evidently hadn't gotten the best tours of the school considering how lost they were). If the pair hadn't still been moving, Noah would have flipped to one of his notebook's other pages to give a standard nice to meet you or something, but he was doing his best just to keep up.
They slowed down when it seemed they were about to go out of the school building, and Noah vaguely wondered if they were about to leave the premises entirely. What a way to start the school year, getting in trouble for accidentally leaving school grounds--
Noah jumped when the double doors burst open and he nearly hid behind Adam. A cheerful voice apologized, with Noah recognizing from sound first before sight that it was Willow who had appeared. He gave her a small wave while trying to calm his nerves.
She was one of the more outgoing of his housemates, something that Noah had been warned about by Mason and found out first-hand when Willow had sought Noah out to meet him during his first few days at the mutant manor. Willow was pleasant, and Noah did like her, but she was his complete opposite when it came to talking. Noah found it completely normal to get mental whiplash when listening to Willow speak.
Wait, she mentioned lunch.
Noah reached out and brushed against her hand to ask, "Can you show us the way?"

Noah didn't seem to know where they were, and Adam almost lost the smaller of the pair when the doors burst open. It took Adam a moment to realize that Noah had almost ducked behind him. Adam didn't mind -- he could only imagine how often Noah almost got trampled or jostled to the side due to crowds.
Willow, the girl that Adam had met during the open house because of the book club, was the one who had crashed through the doors. She was maneuvering around Noah and him, talking all the while as if she knew both of them. Judging by her words, Noah and Adam had been about to leave the current building and head towards the gymnasium, which was definitely not where they wanted to go.
"We are lost," Adam deadpanned when Willow voiced the hope that the pair weren't getting lost like her. It would be insane if all three of them were wandering around like idiots, unable to find the school's cafeteria.
Still, with her words, Noah had actually reached out to her to presumably make her pause and Adam said, "You know where the cafeteria is? That's what we're looking for."

Nevertheless, Willow turned back to him with a smile that she shared with Adam when the tallest of their group voiced aloud that they were lost. Willow giggled and said, "I'm pretty sure it's back somewhere this way."
She pointed back in the direction that Adam and Noah had come from. With a gesture to the doors before them, Willow said, "Those lead to the fields outside of the gymnasium. The cafeteria is on the opposite side of the main school building... If I remember correctly from the open house."
Which, now that she was being put on the spot, Willow wasn't quite sure if her memory was up to par. Fortunately, she may be able to discreetly borrow some animal's sense of smell that could help lead them to the cafeteria.
"C'mon, let's find the place together," she said to the guys. She began to lead the way before glancing back at the pair. "Do you two know each other from class? Or are you both just looking for the cafeteria together by coincidence?"

Words: 214 Tags: Golem CritterNoah bit his lip and immediately broke off the mental contact with Willow, noticing that she had been startled. He hadn't meant to scare her, but he had little options when it came to getting someone's attention.
Fortunately, Adam spoke aloud, telling Willow their plight, and she giggled while correcting the pair. Noah hadn't gone to the school's open house, that would have been way overwhelming for him, but he was starting to regret it at the moment. Knowing what Willow's mutation was, and catching her in the kitchen multiple times, he was sure they could trust her knowledge as to where the cafeteria was.
Noah glanced up at Adam before moving to follow Willow, and she asked the pair if they knew each other from class or if they had just banded together from searching for the cafeteria. Noah scribbled out in his notebook, "Coincidence," before adding, "Do you two know each other?"
Looking between Adam and Willow, the two didn't seem like either would share classes. Willow was a freshman like Noah, and he had no idea what sort of classes Adam was in, but Adam seemed older. Then again, Adam said he was new just like Noah was, so he supposed there was a chance Adam shared a class or two with Willow.

Well, Adam and Noah had been spectacularly incorrect.
Adam began following Willow and Noah without protest, figuring that Willow seemed to have more confidence in where she was going. She mentioned the gymnasium had been in that general direction and Adam briefly wondered how he got turned around. He had just come from weight training class. Surely that would be by he gymnasium, right? Or was there a separate section or room for the weights?
He shoved the thought out of his mind as he realized that Willow was talking to the pair of guys, seeing that Noah had answered her initial question before turning it on Willow and him. "Book club," Adam answered, giving Willow a nod. Obviously, the club itself hadn't started yet, what with it being the first day of school and all, and Adam clarified further, "We, uh, met while signing up during the open house.
"You both seem to know each other," Adam said, noting the familiarity the two had with one another. "Both freshman?"

Tag: Hush GolemWords: 204 Willow had set the pace at a brisk walk, hoping she wasn't going too fast for Noah or too slow for Adam. She was starting to get the familiar feeling of her stomach getting ready to demand loud and clear for food. She grinned at the pair as she found it amusing that the two were just coincidentally looking for the cafeteria together, and she was someone that linked the two further.
"We're both freshmen, yes," she answered Adam, turning her smile to Noah. "We have first period and, apparently, lunch together. Nice to know that you also have lunch during the same period, too, Adam. Do we know when the book club will start?"
She assumed the next week, but she really hadn't heard anything about it. Although, she supposed, she could always bother Mason to ask his mother for her. It was a little strange to think of all the connections she had with certain staff members and other students in the high school, but she didn't mind taking advantage of said connections.
"The first day going well for you both?" she asked as the trio came to a fork in the hallways. She paused for a brief instant before taking the right.

Words: 157 Tags: Golem Critter Notes: Willow would accidentally leave them in the dust! Well, that was a weird coincidence. Out of all the people Noah could have met randomly in the hallways, he supposed it was good that it was someone one of his housemates knew. Granted, Willow seemed to be the type who was friendly with everyone, but Adam didn't seem bad at first glance. When Willow confirmed to Adam that they were both freshmen and had first period together, Noah returned her smile with his own.
Then she abruptly shifted gears and asked Adam about the book club.
Noah noticed that she hesitated for just a second before turning at a fork in the hallways, but he didn't have a reason to protest or raise a fuss about it. It wasn't like he had any ideas as to where to go. She asked about how their first days were going, and Noah gave a small shrug before writing out an answer in his notebook:
"Can't complain? Textbooks are heavy. You?"

It appeared Adam was just collecting freshmen.
He guessed it made sense that Noah had sought him out when Noah had questions about where to go (never mind the fact that Adam had probably been one of the last few standing people in the hallways) considering that Adam himself was an older student and, presumably, knew his way around Bayville High. Despite that, Adam followed the two others without a problem, although he did raise an eyebrow at Willow's slight hesitation when going down one such hallway.
"No idea," Adam responded when Willows asked him about the book club. "Uh, wouldn't we get an email or something?"
To her next question, Adam shrugged. "The day is going. Nothing special about it."
Noah wrote down about heavy textbooks but didn't have anything else to comment about the day. Adam wasn't as encumbered with the textbooks, but Noah (and Willow) were on the small side. "Hopefully your schedule doesn't make it so you need all your heaviest textbooks at once," he said to Noah.

Tag: Golem HushWords: 182 Notes: Good to end the thread? Willow was pretty sure that the cafeteria was in the direction she was going. She gave off a big yawn, trying to hide it behind her hand even as she listened to -- and, well, read -- the guys' responses to her question. To Adam's words about the book club, she gave him a sheepish smile. "I suppose we would get an email, huh? I'm sure Ms. Perez would find someway to contact us."
Neither of the guys she was with seemed to care much about how their first day was going, which Willow found both a little sad and a little amusing. She supposed not everyone would be as enthusiastic as she was, but still.
"I'm glad neither of your days are going bad?" she asked more than said.
She led the pair towards the end of the building and, with another yawn nearly interrupting her, the various scents of food began to reach her. Which was fantastic, because she was hungry but also getting sleepier. It wouldn't be great to pass out in school in front of a couple of friends, right?
