Description: Noah is on the small side, both in height and in frame. His features are angular, almost bony, with how lithe he is. He doesn't reach too much higher than five feet and, while it's possible he still has a little growing to do, he's not expecting to get too much taller. His complexion is pale and he has short, wavy brown hair and brown eyes. He tends to dress casually in neutral colors, outfits that would not draw too much attention but that he also finds comfortable.
Personality: Being a selective mute, Noah is quiet and shy among the majority of people. While he will speak minimally with family, it takes him a while to warm up enough to new people in order to be comfortable enough to speak aloud. Even then, it may only be a sentence or two occasionally. He prefers to be in the background.
He does his best not to cling to those he does find comfort with, but by combining his abilities and his dislike of crowds and new situations, one can imagine that he would naturally stay by the side of those he can actually consider friends. With these friends, he will do his best to be as supportive as possible, being a great listener and willing to give advice despite his -- in his words -- inexperience with life.
Powers: Noah's main mutation is tactile telepathy. He is able to communicate with others mentally by detecting thoughts and emotions, reading others' minds, and transmitting information. He has the capability to make "suggestions" to others when communicating mentally, nudging them to make decisions that he would prefer, but the outcome would be a test of the participants' wills. He is also able to put himself in a trance that allows him to sharpen his focus and strengthen his own psionic shield. Due to this, he has decent protection against other telepaths, able to protect his own thoughts and mind fairly well.
His other mutation is telekinesis, wherein he is able to move and interact with matter and energy mentally. With this ability, he is able to move objects without physically interacting with them and create small forcefields by projecting force with his mind. He is learning to use his telekinesis on himself so he can hover -- and, perhaps, one day fly.
Weaknesses: The obvious drawback of his telepathy is that he needs physical contact in order to use it. He is not able to utilize his telepathy unless he has skin-to-skin contact with whoever he is trying to communicate mentally with -- as such, his telepathy is not subtle. At this time, he is also not as confident to truly make his "suggestions" to others work in his favor unless the other is fairly compliant.
With his telekinesis, Noah can only comfortably move objects that weigh less than him. He is strengthening his mind and ability to eventually be able to mentally move at least his weight, and generally cannot move other people. He may be able to give them a push or trip them with a forcefield, but moving them completely is out of the question.
Skills/Hobbies: ASL is a language Noah has learned more out of necessity than interest, and is proficient with it. Being rather small and quiet, Noah is an excellent sneak. He does his best not to use this skill for nefarious purposes, but it has come in handy occasionally. He also enjoys writing, particularly fantasy, and has several private journals to write down everything he cannot bring himself to say aloud. Listening to music, preferably tucked in a corner somewhere with headphones, is enjoyable to him and he likes the structure of baking and cooking.
History: Noah was the fifth child born to Theo and Carmen Beckett down in Georgia, not that he remembers them well. The family house was a little chaotic considering all of the kids and the fact that Theo was unable to hold down a steady job.
When Theo and Carmen first got married, Theo was a contracted construction worker, making good money while Carmen was a clerk in one of the city's departments to carry the insurance. She had their first child -- Hannah -- within a couple of years of their marriage. Once Hannah was about two years old, the couple were pregnant again, aiming to have just the next kid and keep their family at that size.
It was then discovered that Carmen was carrying triplets, and Elijah, Anna, and Jacob were born. It was a tough pregnancy for Carmen, with her maternity leave not being as long as it should be and Theo getting hurt on one of his latest jobs. His shoulder didn't quite recover from a pulled muscle and he had to take whatever jobs he could get, including seasonal retail positions or consultation work. Money dwindled quickly, and the family had to move in with Carmen's parents when the triplets were about three years old.
Carmen's parents did their best to be supportive, but the house was rather crowded. Within the next couple of years, Hannah was enrolled in a boarding school, doing well since she was able to focus on herself and learning rather than being another pseudo-parent at such a young age. The triplets were a handful but there were enough adults to go around to help so Carmen could enter the workforce again.
Then Carmen became pregnant for a third time.
Noah was an accident and, while his parents and grandparents did their best, no one was really prepared to handle a newborn again. They were relieved when he was a quiet toddler but, as they were looking for daycare centers for him, it became apparent that Noah being quiet was detrimental to his development. The toddler appeared to absorb any negative emotions from around him, never really smiling or laughing, and it began to unnerve the adults in his life.
Eventually, with a mixture of heavy hearts and relief, Noah was put in the adoption system. His parents guessed that he would have a better life if he was able to be adopted by a family that could properly give him the attention he needed and deserved.
However, Noah never outgrew his shyness and it was difficult for him to be placed. Wherever he was, he tended to bond with one or two other people, particularly caretakers, and clung to them. When he was about eleven, he realized he was beginning to hear voices that weren't his own in his head when he brushed up against others or held onto a caretaker's hand. He couldn't explain it out loud but inadvertently asked for help mentally, telepathically communicating with whoever he was in contact with.
Some caretakers handled it well, but most did not.
Fortunately, his latest foster home had someone who had a little bit of knowledge on mutants and was able to guess what exactly Noah was. Doing a bit of research, this particular caretaker was able to find and contact the Xavier Institute, hoping they would be able to give Noah the home he needed to really grow into himself.
As a promise to the caretaker, Noah will do his best at the Xavier Institute, but he isn't thrilled with moving to yet another new place.
First Appearance Scene: Upon arriving at the Xavier Institute, Noah would probably go and hide somewhere after doing the minimal when it came to unpacking. Having a fellow new recruit know that there is a new kid around and finding him to try to welcome him to the place could be nice.
