♡ TAGS Open to high school students! WORDS 185 NOTES Dec. 31 into Jan 1 for a new year party -- my other high schoolers are milling about so feel free to reference them The music was pumping loud enough from the speakers, the catered food was delicious, and the rest of her family had their own plans for the night. In short, her New Year party was going well. Which, duh. Of course it was. Clarissa was hosting it. Clarissa swirled her drink -- a combination of punch and just a touch of rum, stolen from her sister's room when Bianca had come back from university for her break; Clarissa was sure to have the spiked drinks appropriately labeled for the more straight-laced kids -- as she surveyed the crowd. The Bayville High student body had been invited, since she wasn't one to discriminate who wanted to come to her parties. The more people that came, the more there would be to admire her style and hosting abilities. Isaac was around somewhere, no doubt with the rest of his football team, and Clarissa knew he would make himself available for a new year's kiss with her. However, Clarissa wasn't a stranger to trying to see if anyone else would want to pucker up and be her first kiss for 2024...

"You couldn't pick any better booze?"
Andrew sidled up next to Clarissa and he was staring down at his drink distastefully. Regardless, he took a swig of it before his own gaze decided to survey the crowd. "Looking for anyone in particular? Perhaps a newer football player with bright blue eyes?"
He batted his eyelashes down at Clarissa, teasing her, but he knew he was on the lookout for someone special, too. While Clarissa tended to invite everyone who roamed Bayville High's hallways to her bigger bashes, sometimes the freshmen of the year lost their invitations. Considering Willow had gotten the text at the very beginning of the school year, he would hope and assume that she got the invite to this party.
That, and Clarissa had Willow's number. He was sure the only reason that Clarissa would purposefully exclude Willow would be to annoy him, and Clarissa loved him too much to do that.
"You know," Andrew said slowly as he looked at the crowd, "there were a good amount of new kids this year, weren't there...?"

♡ "My favorite liquor store worker wasn't in when I tried to get something stronger," Clarissa confessed when Andrew decided to come up to her side and complain about the alcohol. "It was rum or nothing, and that's only because my sister had a stash."She elbowed Andrew's ribs when he began to bat his eyelashes at her, teasing her about looking for a prospective new year's kiss. "What about you?" she asked in return. "Scoping out the freshmen?"She absolutely wouldn't have minded if Adam was her first kiss for the new year. Isaac could deal and could probably find someone else to be his first kiss for 2024. Vaguely, she wondered if Andrew actually was looking for Willow. Andrew usually didn't mind kissing any pretty girl, but he did seem to be smitten with Willow lately. Andrew actually mentioned something about the new kids that had appeared at Bayville High this year, and Clarissa shrugged. "Hadn't really thought about it," she admitted. "Why would I? Not many of them really stand out to me."

"Beggars can't be choosers," Andrew said before taking another sip of his drink.
He nearly dropped his drink when Clarissa elbowed him, chuckling to himself before she teased in him return in regards to a new year's kiss. He actually was on the lookout for Willow, but Clarissa didn't need to know that at the moment.
"Well, that's a lie," Andrew said, when Clarissa claimed that none of the new kids stood out to her. "You got the new football player and the new cheerleader as two right away. You tried to join forces with Willow for the Halloween dance a couple of months ago." He gestured to the crowd of students. "That tall kid there? With the nice vest and slacks? Almost too stylish in the middle of the dance floor? Mason Perez. He's doing pretty damn well in the athletic department, according to my sources. For someone like you, he may be better to know instead of ignore."
Dropping his voice to a whisper, Andrew added, "Mason doesn't even live with his mother, who is the new English teacher this year. He lives at that boarding manor for 'gifted students' near the outskirts of the city."

Laurie had heavily debated about going to this big party being held by one of the more popular girls in school. Mostly, she hesitated with thinking about the incident a year ago when she had decided to street race at her former best friend's behest. She had learned her lesson well in trying to be one of the popular crowd, having nearly lost the life of her friend in the process and only found her streak of luck going down hill since. Traumatizing would be the best description for the memory, one that scared her enough to steer clear of such events so common to teens. Not that she had ever been much of a party girl before the incident anyhow, but Laurie could likewise say being a shut in all the time wouldn't do her much good either. So against her own better judgement, she had decided to check out the party. Seemed like every other Bayville high schooler was going maybe even her fellow housemates. Getting out a nice cocktail dress she had bought on a whim earlier that year, Laurie got herself ready. Foregoing the need for makeup (she never was good at it anyway), Laurie dolled herself up to look decent at least, getting her magenta hair in a nice fishtail braid that could best work around the crystalline protrusions on her head with some loose ends to frame her face and matching shoes to go with the dress. " Hmm, should do for a party..." She muttered to herself, looking in the mirror for a bit longer than was probably needed, turning her head from side to side. ' I should get going before I syke myself out.' She lightly scolded herself finally heading out the front door and taking flight towards house party which was already in full swing. Thankfully her flight meant she could get there quick and without worry about a ride, wondering if Olivia and Adam had decided to come to the party too. Not like she could hide her crystalline blue skin, so there was hardly a chance she might be able to waltz in without making some kind of scene, unintentionally anyway. Letting out a deep breath, Laurie landed a block away before making her way inside, nervously weaving her way through the partying students. Starting with a drink seemed a good way to kick it off right? She made her way to the table where a few other students had gathered, nervously pouring some punch in a glass and taking a small sip, making a brief face at the taste of rum on the punch. Well...least she'd have her first drink on a New Years night. Tags: Clarissa Jenkins , Andrew Harvey , open to other students! Notes: Had to bring the awkward girl to the party! XD

♡ Clarissa gave Andrew a cool look, her eyebrow raised as he disagreed with her when it came to the new kids at Bayville High that year. He didn't need to point out the handful that she had closer encounters with the past couple of months -- and, of course, he was right; she almost needed a second hand to count them -- and he gave her a bit of gossip about a particular new kid who was, evidently, doing well in the athletics department. She scoffed. "Can't worry about Perez," she said. "He's still new and I'm already established. Besides, what sport is he in, anyway? It's not like we're competing in the cheerleading squad."The tidbit that one of the new kids scored a spot at that "gifted" school was interesting, though. "I'm not going to dwell on any of that tonight," Clarissa said. "I'm looking too good and hosting too good of a party to worry about the new kids--"Then the blue-skinned new girl showed up at the house and Clarissa pursed her lips. She wouldn't discriminate or kick anyone out of her house parties without good reason, but it was a little disconcerting at how open -- not that the girl had a choice -- she was with an obvious mutation. Really, the only threat at this time would be the new girl getting more attention than her...

Tag: All the high schoolers, lol. Words: 189 Notes: Feel free to bother Roy or Willow, who is most likely on the dance floor! This probably hadn't been a great idea.
Roy wasn't one for parties anyway, but he understood enough of the high school social scene that it was better to appear at these kinds of parties than to not. Besides, Olivia asked if he was going, then Eddie said they should go, then Willow tagged along, and Mason was at least somewhere in the crowd, too, so Roy figured it would be easier to at least make an appearance.
The punch and rum combo didn't taste great, though.
Roy sipped at his water bottle, thankful that there were some drinks that were kept free of alcohol, and kept it close. He felt a little awkward -- which wasn't new -- since he was mainly just wandering throughout the crowd that wasn't dancing. He gave classmates he recognized polite smiles as he passed them by and found a spot by the main staircase.
He wasn't sure what to do other than maybe try to keep an eye out for his housemates. He may have been adverse to the punch and rum, but there was no telling if any of the others liked the combo.

288 words | Transonic in particular, open to other high schoolers! Mason could get used to house parties like this.
The house was big, definitely not has huge as the Xavier Institute but there was still a large enough living room that had most of the furniture moved to the side to allow plenty of room for dancing. Mason almost got lost when visiting the little boy's room earlier in the evening, but there were plenty of other students willing to help direct a kid that was new to Bayville High that year around. Apparently having a school-wide party wasn't a new thing for the host.
Mason wasn't even sure if he actually knew Clarissa. Sure, he caught glimpses of her around the hallways of the school, they had mutual acquaintances, but Mason himself was certain he and Clarissa never had a good conversation. He'd have to rectify that, or at least make an effort to find her when the festivities were winding down to thank her for hosting the party.
He'd find her eventually. Perhaps after he was exhausted from dancing.
He found Willow amid those on the dance floor and guessed that Eddie was somewhere in the crowd too. Mason was about to go and catch up with them, but a brief hush near the house's entrance signaled some other arrivals. Mason caught a glimpse of Laurie, another student new to the school this year and someone who was on the track team and the newspaper with him. Mason took a break from dancing to get a drink himself and maneuvered his way towards her.
"Hey," he greeted amicably to her. He tried the punch, wasn't sure if he liked the taste, but figured he'd finish his cup at least before moving onto the non-alcoholic drinks. "How's it going?"

"Track," Andrew answered dutifully when Clarissa asked him what sport Mason Perez was part of. Andrew took another sip of his drink, his gaze watching Perez as he decided to pause in dancing to get a drink and then go and chat up the blue-skinned student that had arrived a few moments ago. Nudging Clarissa, Andrew added, "Pretty sure she is also on the track team and also doing well."
The rum may have been starting to get to Andrew, since there was no good reason to tease (or antagonize, since that was probably a better description to what he was doing) Clarissa about potential athletic rivals in the school. Yet, Andrew was mighty curious of the new kids at Bayville, and if his teasing made Clarissa more on board with doing a little investigative work with him, then Andrew would count that as a win.
Still, Andrew figured he may as well leave that topic alone lest he say something he regrets. His gaze caught sight of Willow on the dance floor and Andrew downed what was left of his drink before tossing it towards a garbage can. He may have missed, but he'd check later if he remembered. "'Scuse me," he said to Clarissa. "I'm going to go join my little freshman."
Andrew weaved his way through the crowd of dancers, twirling a girl here and there as he passed by with a bright grin, before he found Willow amid everyone else. Bending a little to speak in her ear, he said, "Hey, pretty lady. Can I claim the last dance with you into the new year?"

Tag: Andrew Harvey in particular, open! Words: 207 Best. Party. Ever.
Okay, so this was Willow's first major high school party, but she was certain that it would be the best one she would ever attend, partly because it was her first one and also partly because there was a ton of good food and amazing music to dance to. And the punch tasted great.
...Sort of. Maybe she should switch to water after finishing up her current cup.
Willow was enthralled with the music, being somewhere in the middle of the dance floor with her half a cup of punch in one hand and some sort of grilled vegetable and chicken shish-ka-bob thing in the other. She was constantly dancing to and from the food table, conscious enough of the fact that she needed to keep her stomach sated with all of the energy she was burning through. She wasn't planning on using her abilities tonight, of course, but who knew where the night would take them?
Above the sound of the music pumping, Willow heard a familiar voice in her ear and she twirled around to beam up at Andrew. "Andrew! Nice to see you!" He mentioned the last dance, and Willow blushed. "If you'd really like to dance with me, then yes!"

◄ HAVEN'T YOU HEARD WHAT BECOMES OF CURIOUS MINDS? What better way to integrate herself into the Bayville High student body than to join what seemed to be one of the hottest parties of the year?
Jasmine was happy to tag along with her newer housemates to the party hosted by one of the juniors at the high school (Clarissa Jenkins, one of the top cheerleaders, Jasmine should remember that), and she was grateful that her housemates were cool enough with her joining them. Many of them had dispersed once they reached the house, which Jasmine couldn't fault them for. Some went straight to the dance floor, others were seeking out friends, and Jasmine was good with finding her own way through the mass of students.
She had found herself in one such room that had the New Year's party at Times Square playing on the large-screen television, chitchatting with a few others that she had met, before she continued to wander the house.
Eventually, she found herself near one of the main staircases near Roy. Having arrived at the Xavier Institute only a couple of days ago after the holidays, Roy was one of the first students she had met and he was cordial, a bit quiet, but friendly. She gave him a bright grin and settled against the wall beside him.
"Are all of Clarissa's parties like this?" she asked.

She had barely been there, a few minutes at best, and already she was beginning to feel the regret bubbling up. Why had she decided to come to this party? Laurie felt way out of her element in more ways than one, shockingly not entirely because of being a walking blue crystal, but mostly for the fact parties such as this was not her scene. She had half a mind to turn tail and skedaddle rather than linger as she had planned... Taking another sip of the rum punch in her hand, Laurie let the thought linger at the forefront of her mind for a little while longer, debating her options. Maybe she could even give the party a look, see if familiar faces were around. ' Maybe just a quick look...' Though the thought had barely crossed her mind before the sound of someone greeting her pulled Laurie from her internal thoughts, having to shake off her doubts for the moment. Focusing on the voice, she was met with the sight of Mason Perez a face she did know from their shared clubs and seeing him around the school from time to time. Well, least he was a familiar face in some form. " Oh, hey. Mason right?" Laurie greeted in kind, mentally kicking herself for being so awkward with new people, or even with those she somewhat knew. " And its...going, I suppose. Not really my kinda scene, but figured couldn't help to step out of my comfort zone once in a while." She answered, swishing her cup around a bit and watching the punch swirl in her glass as she tried to push her social awkwardness away. " How about you? Enjoying the party so far?" She inquired in return. Tags: Incognito, open to others!

Tag: Druid in particular, open otherwise! Words: 205 Roy glanced up at Jasmine as she wandered towards him, her smile bright and friendly. Despite being new to Bayville -- like, really new, she just arrived at the manor a couple of days ago -- she seemed to be fitting in just fine with the Bayville High student body.
Rather, she was doing her best to do so. She didn't seem too shy at all.
Jasmine appeared to let her grin be a greeting to Roy before she asked him a question about Clarissa's parties, and Roy could only shrug. "Honestly, not really sure," he answered. "This is my first major party. I only arrived at Bayville this past summer."
Of course, seeing how comfortable the rest of the student body appeared and how precise everything seemed to be -- from the food and their labels to the tasteful decorations to Clarissa herself wandering around to no-doubt play the role of good hostess -- Roy could safely guess that this was not the first party thrown at the Jenkins house.
Roy's gaze wandered, spotting Willow talking with that Andrew kid and Mason abandoning the dance floor to speak to the blue-skinned student that had arrived not too long ago. Looking back at Jasmine, Roy asked, "You doing alright?"

"Yep, that's me," Mason said when Laurie confirmed his name, his grin momentarily disappearing only when he took a sip of his drink.
He listened (rather, did his best to listen with the bass of the music thumping near them) as Laurie admitted that a party like this wasn't her usual go-to scene and she had been trying to get of her comfort zone by coming here tonight.
"It's great to see you outside of school, though," Mason said, "so I'm glad you decided to come. Did you arrive with anyone else?
"I'm having an awesome time," he said when Laurie questioned how he was enjoying the party. Gesturing to the group of students dancing, he added, "The music's good, food is great, plenty of friendly faces around, even though I technically don't really know the hostess... I'm looking forward to seeing how loud we're all gonna get when the ball in Times Square actually drops."
Vaguely, he wondered if and when Clarissa's parents would arrive home. Mason knew his mother would never allow him to throw a party of this size.

Mya was used to these parties but was already feeling the blisters start to form on her heels from her new shoes. She should have broken them in more before arriving.
Not that she would show that she was in pain, but if there was a point in the night where she could take the high heels off and have someone -- preferably a good-looking guy who may or may not be her first kiss for the new year -- hold onto them for her, Mya would take it.
For now, she was taking a break from the dance floor and sauntered over to the refreshments table. She popped one of the little chocolate truffles in her mouth, careful to dab at her mouth to ensure no cocoa powder stained her lipstick, and took a cup of the punch. She found Clarissa rather quickly and said, "Nice party, as always. Even if you let in... everyone." Mya gestured with her head towards the blue-skinned mutant that had arrived, noticing that Clarissa had also been looking in her direction.
Another of the new kids went to go and talk to the mutant, and Mya wondered if he was just nice to everyone. Mya didn't have a problem with mutants, not really, but it was still odd to see a blatantly-obvious one. Not that the poor girl could do anything about the color of her skin -- it was like the new janitor, actually -- but she didn't seem to have any confidence to back up her looks.
"Any plans for the new year?" Mya asked Clarissa, bringing her attention back to the hostess. ( Clarissa Jenkins in particular, open!)
