Date: late Wed. December 20, 2023 Words: 181 Tags: open! Notes: Considering the date, I'm not sure if some of the other new recruits were home with their families, or if they stayed at the manor? Wasn't sure if I should play off as the manor not being as full as it usually is.It was the first time Noah had seen such a sight.
It was late at night, too late, a time in which Noah was usually sleeping, but he was still enjoying the sight of the large evergreen tree that had been put in the main living room of the manor. So tall that Kurt had needed to teleport up to put the star on top, the tree itself was grandly decorated with both tasteful and homemade ornaments on its full branches. Strings of small, multicolored lights were wrapped around the tree from top to bottom, giving the room a soft glow in the night.
Noah was sitting on the floor, his legs in the shape of a pretzel, as he just gazed up at the tree. It was a beautiful sight that he was enjoying at this time, when the rest of the manor was fairly quiet. He was certain none of the instructors, should they catch him, would get upset with him not being in bed.
They'd be able to understand the wonder he felt at seeing his first Christmas tree, right?

Tag: HushWords: 208 Notes: I am playing off that most of the other recruits are at home with their families for this week, in particular for Eddie. Ava, if you see this and protest, let me know and I will edit this! He was having trouble sleeping the past couple of nights. He was blaming Eddie -- Roy had gotten so used to sharing a room with the other that since Eddie was visiting his grandparents for the holidays, Roy couldn't sleep without hearing Eddie's soft snoring.
It was a dumb excuse, Roy knew that. He didn't maliciously blame Eddie, or any of the others that may have been visiting their families at this time, but it was a bit too quiet in the manor at this time.
Roy wandered down the hallways to head towards the kitchen, figuring that he could at least get some warm milk or something that he could pretend would help him sleep, and he passed by the main living room. The lights on the tree were on, and Roy glanced in the room to enjoy the sight.
He paused when he spotted Noah sitting on the floor, frozen in place, while just looking at the Christmas tree.
Roy didn't bother to try to walk too quietly. He didn't feel the need to sneak around as he casually crossed the room to join Noah's side.
"Hey," he said, his gaze going back and forth between Noah and the bright lights on the Christmas tree. "Everything alright?"

Words: 184 Tags: Hydro, openNoah stiffened as he heard someone else come into the living room, and he braced himself, ready to get up and sign an apology. He paused when he noticed that it was Roy rather than one of the teachers.
Roy seemed casual, even as he asked Noah if everything was alright. Noah gave him a little nod and half of a shrug, trying to gauge if the veteran recruit of the place cared that Noah was out of bed this late at night. How much of a stickler for bedtime and curfew was Roy?
"Nearly forgot you were here, too," Noah said telepathically to Roy when he reached up to tug on Roy's hand, half-inviting him to sit down by the tree with him. "It's quiet around here without all the others."
It was rather peaceful, especially considering how much of a whirlwind the past few months have been since Noah moved to the institute and started at Bayville High. He had gotten used to the other recruits and housemates, but the quiet was welcomed.
"Why are you up right now?" Noah asked.

Tag: HushWords: 156 Roy looked down at Noah when he felt the other tug on his hand. Roy followed the pull, trying to focus on Noah's telepathy even as he settled down on the floor next to Noah.
"It is pretty quiet," Roy agreed, opting to speak quietly rather than trying to return the telepathy. Roy felt that he wasn't very good at it. Noah asked why Roy was up at this time, and Roy gave him a crooked smile. "It's too quiet in my bedroom. I'm used to hearing Eddie breathing." After a pause, Roy added, "Sometimes he hums in his sleep, too.
"I've never had a bedroom to myself before," Roy added. "Not for long, anyway. I always shared a room with other kids back at the orphanage in Ohio.
"What about you?" Roy turned the question back on Noah before his gaze went back to the Christmas tree. "What are you doing up at this time?"

Christmas was around the corner... Holidays such as this made Jubilee restless and slightly depressed, feeling the sadness of the loss of her family bubble up still even after all this time. Of course, she had her aunt in her life now, but Hope might as well been a stranger to her, someone who had been related and given her opportunity to still have a decent life. But, it wasn't the same. They felt more like roommates than genuine family especially when her aunt was so secretive about her lifestyle and what she did for work while Jubilee held other concerns in her life. Such restlessness struck Jubilee once more, finding herself unable to sleep, not even a power nap. Tossing and turning, staring at the wall, this went on for a few hours with no luck of her body and mind relaxing. " Ugh, forget it." The young woman muttered under her breath finally foregoing the attempts at sleep that failed to come, shoving off her covers in frustration. Maybe a nice training session in the training room would wear her out. It was deep underground so the danger room shouldn't bother anyone else. Sighing softly, Jubilee pushed herself to her feet and moved over to her dresser drawer, getting her uniform and quickly changing out of her pajamas into said suit. It was pretty late, but she was certain just about everyone was snoozing or handling paperwork in their office and room. It was quiet, more so when some of the recruits were away at home so she wasn't too worried about disturbing others. She was pretty sure Bobby was snoring the night away, Sierra probably handling some of her principals matters, and Kurt maybe sleeping too. Feeling she could go without incident, the young woman grabbed her signature jacket, her glasses, and gloves, quietly leaving her room down the staff dormitories and headed downstairs. She moved silently, trying to avoid the creaking floors as she left the upstairs and made her way down, pulling on her fingerless gloves as she walked, going over in her head exactly what level of training she wanted to partake in. But it was as she was passing the main living room did she pause and double back, peering inside to find two of the recruits sitting in front of the giant Christmas tree. Seems she wasn't the only restless one that night. Noah seemed focused on the tree while Roy seemed to be inquiring why he was up so late. She couldn't blame the two for being up when they likely were use to so much noise and others being around. " Everything alright boys?" Jubilee inquired towards the two as she stood in the threshold of the doorway, looking curious rather than upset the two were out of bed. And honestly, she didn't really care personally. Words: 236 Tags: Hydro, Jubilee, open! Notes: Don't mind at all! ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) Noah listened as Roy answered his question, and looked entirely too amused when Roy mentioned that Eddie sometimes hums in his sleep. Roy probably heard the faint echo of laughter in his head after he taught Noah that fun fact about their housemate.
Roy took a turn and asked Noah why the younger was up and Noah gestured to the Christmas tree with his free hand. "Never had a Christmas tree before," he confessed. "Certainly not one as grand as this. One foster home may have had a little fake one, but... I never saw anything like this before."
He briefly took his hand off of Roy's to get his thoughts in order so he didn't bombard Roy with his thoughts. Once he did, Noah tapped the back of Roy's hand and said, "The teachers won't care if we're up like this, right?"
As if on cue, one teacher appeared, and Noah stiffened, waiting to see if he and Roy would be reprimanded. Jubilee was probably one of the more relaxed of the teachers at the manor, although it definitely took Noah some time to get used to her exuberant nature.
Jubilee asked if everything was alright, and Noah nodded before gesturing widely to the Christmas tree in front of them. He then furrowed his brows as he realized that Jubilee was dressed in her uniform, and he was curious as to where she was going.

Tag: Jubilee, HushWords: 177 Roy gave Noah a crooked smile as he heard a faint echo of laughter in his mind. It was a little odd, admittedly, but Roy took it in stride, especially as he watched Noah continue to look enthralled at the Christmas tree. It was a heartbreakingly innocent reason for Noah to still be awake.
"No, they won't care--"
Roy's answer to Noah's question about the teachers was interrupted by a teacher herself and, when she made herself known, Roy gave Jubilee a little wave with his free hand. "We're alright," Roy said. "My room is just a little too quiet to sleep and Noah likes the Christmas tree."
He didn't want, and didn't feel the need, to make a big deal out of their reasons for still being awake. Honestly, out of all the teachers, Jubilee was probably one of the most laid-back. Roy couldn't imagine any of the teachers caring about Roy and Noah still being awake, not even Sierra.
To Jubilee, Roy asked, "Are you alright? Uh, you're dressed for the day kind of early."

Jubilee caught onto what the two were doing based on Noah's gesturing before Roy had voiced it audibly. She could only smile knowingly, having done the exact same thing on her first Christmas there at the mansion since it had been her first real holiday with anyone for a couple years. Now this was one distraction she didn't quite mind even if it wasn't involving the Danger Room. Moving over to join the boys, she placed her jacket and glasses on the back of the nearest seat before moving to Noah's other side, standing for a moment to admire the grandest Christmas tree she ever knew. Fifteen years later, it still was a sight to behold, never able to imagine a better tree out there in the world than this one. " I did the same thing you know, on my first Christmas here. We all pitched in to decorate it and I sometimes imagine the mansion's tree bests any that exist out there." She mused as she reminisced about the simpler days finally lowering herself to sit cross-legged next to the two teens, offering a smile towards the two, " But I wouldn't worry about being up so late, its winter break plus it has been pretty quiet around here. None of us could be mad if you two can't sleep, I promise." She assured them before thinking for a moment, " Buttt, if anyone asks, just tell them you were joining me." But, Jubilee doubted any of the other instructors would really care especially Bobby since he use to be just as bad with mischief and rule breaking as she had been. Noticing the curious expression on Noah's face and Roy's own question, the young woman's smile only soften from its usually brightness, " Just restless is all you two; same as you, just gets too quiet with so many people gone." She answered, a faint glint of sadness briefly showing in her eyes before disappearing just as quickly. " Sometimes I just need to do something to get my thoughts back in order." Tags: Hush, Hydro

Words: 221 Tags: Hydro, Jubilee, open!Jubilee joined the pair of teenagers in admiring the Christmas tree, even opting to sit down on the floor with them, the teacher only cementing Roy's words in telling them that the teachers wouldn't mind the teens being up this late. It eased Noah's nerves a bit, even if he still felt a little odd at being caught up out of bed, so to speak. His foster homes usually had strict bedtimes, so this reaction was a bit of a novelty.
Noah shifted so he could gently lay a hand on each of the others' so he could communicate with them better. "It was fun decorating the tree," Noah said, agreeing with Jubilee about how pretty the tree was. "Think it was the first one I helped decorate."
Jubilee gave Roy and him an excuse in case any of the other teachers questioned them being out of bed, and Noah wondered if any of the teachers would actually care considering what Roy and Jubilee told him. Maybe Sierra would disapprove, being the strictest around the manor, but Noah couldn't imagine her being actually upset at them.
Jubilee actually shared that she was awake for essentially the same reason as Roy, and Noah asked, "Is the manor usually that full? How full was it when you were here as a student, Jubilee?"

Tag: Hush, JubileeWords: 237 Roy actually chuckled when Jubilee gave them an out, fully allowing them to blame her should any of the other teachers actually catch them out of bed and care about it. He moved minutely in his spot on the floor to be sure his legs didn't fall asleep as Jubilee also took a seat, the pair of them sandwiching Noah as they all enjoyed the sight of the Christmas tree before them. Jubilee also admitted that she was feeling a little restless, and Roy wasn't sure if he was surprised or not.
He supposed even the teachers had their routines, and it was natural to feel off when normalcy shifted.
"There was usually a little tree in the orphanage," Roy shared when Noah mentioned that the tree before them was his first Christmas tree. "It wasn't too tall and only the really little kids helped decorate it. It was a craft project. The ornaments were usually made of construction paper, popsicle sticks, colored tinfoil, things like that. It was always cute to see, don't get me wrong, but," he nodded towards the tree in front of them, "it was really nice to actually help with this tree." He felt oddly proud of the manor's tree.
Roy heard Noah ask Jubilee about what the manor was like when she had been a student, the question echoing in his mind, and he waited to see if she would answer.

Once again, Jubilee was reminded how some of the teenagers under their care didn't exactly have a typical life before coming to the mansion. It had been the same thing when she was a student there with the New Mutants. Some were fortunate to have come from families and had tried to get their mutant children the best education they could get to learn their abilities, and others didn't have families at all. So times like this, it made her hopeful that the newer generation residing at the Xavier Institute could have some positive outcomes in their lives even something as simple as decorating a Christmas tree. " I'm glad you two had a fun time. Decorating the tree is kinda like a tradition here." She told them. Or at least, it felt like it was one. " I remember before I became an orphan, me and my parents would always get out our fake tree and decorate it and every year we'd get a family specific ornament. And on the plus side, I got to hang out at the mall a little longer each winter break." She told a little about her own Christmas experiences, something a little different from their own. " But even the mall trees got nothing on the mansion tree." She mused, recalling the god awfully decorated trees that were just as massive, if not taller, than the one before them being in the more open, more highly elevated parts of the mall. Though she turned her gaze from the tree as Noah inquired about her own time as a student, seeing the curious look reflected in Roy's own facial expression. " Pretty full believe it or not." She shifted slightly as she recalled her student days, " Before I came here there was already a first class of six students, plus four instructors at the time, and my own class had eight others." She counted the number of individuals between her hands mentally going over the names in her head for a moment, " So...nineteen of us in total. And compared to Sierra's and Kurt's class, mine was pretty...rowdy." There was no hiding Jubilee mischievous grin at recalling her youth as a New Mutant, recalling how much of a menace her class had been. " You can even ask Bobby how bad we got, Wolverine would get so irritated with us and I lost count how many chores we had to do from all our pranks and rule breaking." The young woman sighed then as she rested her hands on her knees, wondering how the rest of the two classes were doing. " But its been so long since I've seen them, it just feels odd to have the mansion mostly empty again." Tags: Hush, Hydro

Words: 180 Tags: Hydro JubileeRoy shared some memories of the Christmas trees that he had seen while growing up at the orphanage when he used to live in Ohio, and Noah smiled. The idea of a tree filled with homemade ornaments sounded great, but it was a little difficult to picture while they were sitting in front of the splendor of the manor's tree. Golden tinsel, glass bulb ornaments, a star placed on top glowing softly... It was a little comical to think of a painted popsicle stick ornament hiding amid all of the fancier decorations.
Jubilee shared how many students were running amok in the manor when she had been a teenager and Noah's brows furrowed, feeling a little alarmed at the idea of nearly twenty kids (each with their own unique mutation, he was sure) living under one roof together. Before he could stop his thought, Noah clearly said, "This place is still standing after all of you?"
Noah shared a look with Roy at Jubilee's mischievous grin, suddenly in disbelief that the woman with them was one of their current instructors.

Tag: Hush, JubileeWords: 219 Jubilee revealed that she too was an orphan, and Roy couldn't help but give a short, rueful chuckle. "Glad all us orphans are able to be here together, then," he said.
He was thankful for the Xavier Institute, of course. He had gotten used enough to the place to come to terms with the fact that he would always have the place to fall back on if he needed it. There was no worry from him that he would age out of the manor like he would have undoubtedly done if he was still at the Ohio orphanage.
"Why a fake tree?" Roy asked, purely out of curiosity. Glancing at the real tree in front of them, acutely conscious of how many pine needles were on the full branches, he added, "Actually, I guess it would be a lot easier to clean up after the holidays..."
Jubilee responded to Noah's question about how many mutants had been within these walls when Jubilee was a teenager, and Roy's eyebrows flew up to his hairline at how delighted Jubilee seemed to be getting from reliving her memories. Roy snorted from hearing Noah's question, but he sobered up when an air of melancholy settled over Jubilee as she said aloud how long it has been since she's seen some of her classmates.

Jubilee wondered if she still counted as an orphan considering she had her aunt now. But, was the woman she had barely known until mutants were exposed really counted as family? Her father and aunt had been estranged for so long, it was hard for the young woman to see Hope as any true family even compared to the X-Men. If anything, those who had resided at the institute had become more like family to her than her aunt ever would be, something she always reminded herself over those fifteen years. " Trust me, you stay here long enough and get to know your classmates and instructors, it starts to feel like a family all its own." She assured the two boys, hoping in due time they would feel the same way as she felt towards the older students and the New Mutants. But Jubilee couldn't stop the faint smirk that came to her lips at Noah's disbelief, giving a soft, amused chuckle at his question, " Shockingly yes, but barely. Think its more a surprise we still had the Black Bird when me, Bobby, and a couple others took it for a joyride one night." Jubilee tapped her chin in thought, " And I might have almost burned the kitchen down once during the night when trying to cook some pancakes faster with my powers. Used a little too much juice that night." Well, least the whole mansion hadn't gone up in flames right? Good times those had been. At Roy's inquiry about a fake tree, her smirk returned to a soft smile, " Was easier and cheaper to handle every year, just unfold it, spread out the limbs, then hang everything on and then take it apart at the end of December." She then gestured to some of the pine needles already covering the floor, " And definitely easier to clean up and not get poked by little bristles." She added. Tags: Hush, Hydro

Words: 177 Tags: Hydro, Jubilee Notes: Probably good to wrap this up?Noah glanced over at Roy as he made the comment about all of them as orphans staying together, and it made his nerves flip upside-down. This whole experience was a novelty to him, and he rather liked it, especially after Jubilee mentioned that everyone in the manor would eventually start to seem like a family all on its own.
Then Jubilee mentioned taking the jet for a joyride and Noah wasn't sure whether to laugh or not at the absurdity of the idea. He tried to mentally reason out how Jubilee's fireworks -- which was how her powers were described to him when he first heard of the woman -- would even make pancakes cook faster, and ultimately decided not to ask.
The topic of conversation turned to fake versus real trees, and Noah's attention fell to the pine needles on the floor as Jubilee answered Roy's question. It made sense, Noah thought as he yawned, but considering this was one of his first, real Christmas trees, the thought of cleaning up pine needles didn't deter him at all.
