Date: Friday, November 10, 2023 Tag: Open! Words: 189 The oceanography unit in his earth science class should, by all rights, be the simplest topic in all of his high school career. The human body was more than 60 percent water, with blood itself being 92 percent, brain and muscles 75 percent...
With what he could do, Roy was, more or less, 100 percent water and he should totally not be stumped about what energy resources were associated with the ocean basins.
He flipped through his earth science textbook haphazardly, his focus not entirely on his homework any longer. He had hoped that the library would help him stay on task, but so far, it hadn't been working. Roy tapped his pencil irritably against his notebook as his eyes skimmed the page about the different sizes and depths of the different oceans.
Roy vaguely wondered if he fully liquidized in the ocean if he would dissolve and mix in it. Was he made of fresh water? Was his water-self dense enough to mix with saltwater? Maybe he'd go and experiment some day...
He blinked as he had a dark thought: What if I can't pull myself back together?

Words: 185 Tags: Hydro, openThe library was both overwhelming and comforting. The sheer size of the place made Noah feel as if he could get lost (which, he almost did when he first started exploring the library, but he fortunately found his way back to the entrance) but being surrounded by books was relaxing.
Unless, of course, his short stature made it difficult for him to reach some of the books.
Noah took a deep breath and focused on the particular book he wanted, using his telekinesis to pull it from the shelf and down to his arms. Unfortunately the range of his telekinesis was a little wider than he meant it to be, and the book next to the one he wanted on the shelf was also dislodged. The second book wobbled and fell to the ground with a loud THUNK, enough to startle Noah into squeaking and he backed up into another shelf. Banging into the shelf made it rattle, and Noah braced himself in case any other books decided to tumble to the ground.
He hoped no one else had heard the noise he was making...

Tag: Hush, open Words: 166 Roy had jumped at the sound of something heavy falling, his hair and hands dripping as his abilities tried to liquidize him to hide from whatever danger they thought was on its way from the noise. Once he got his bearings back, Roy used his sleeve to try to dry the table and chair -- thankfully having missed his homework itself -- before temporarily abandoning his table to go and investigate.
It was the manor. He honestly shouldn't be surprised nor as startled as he had been because of the noise.
He did round a corner where he thought the noise may have originated from and spotted Noah bracing himself against one of the bookshelves while another book was on the ground before him.
"Hey," Roy said, trying to keep his voice casual in addition to his usual quieter volume. He knew how easily startled Noah could be. He asked, "You okay, Noah?" as he went to go and pick up the book that was on the ground.

Words: 164 Tags: Hydro openOf course someone was around to hear the racket Noah was making.
Noah stared, wide-eyed, as Roy appeared from around the corner and picked up the book that Noah himself had knocked over. To Roy's question, Noah did nod, since he was fine. He was just clumsy. The book he was holding was tucked under one of his arms, and he was about to sign an apology but stopped himself because he wasn't sure if Roy knew any sign language.
Noah was nearly paralyzed with what to do before he fished his cell phone out of his pocket and used his notes app to type out, "Sorry for the noise. Was just trying to reach a book." It took him a few minutes to do so, and he just hoped that Roy was patient. From what he heard of Roy and the few experiences he had with the veteran new recruit, so to speak, Roy was rather patient with everyone else in the manor.

Tag: Hush open Words: 165 Noah nodded to Roy's question, which Roy took as a win. Since Noah himself didn't reach for the book that Roy had picked up from the ground, Roy put it back on the shelf where it belonged.
His housemate then took out his cell phone and started typing, and Roy had half a thought to go back to his table for his own cell phone. Instead, Roy waited, his hands in his pockets casually, as Noah took a few moments to type out what ultimately became a more thorough response to Roy's question.
"Don't worry about it," Roy said after reading the little note. He shrugged and gave Noah a crooked smile. "It's just me. And I room with Eddie, so this noise is nothing.
"You got the book you wanted?" he asked. "Or do you need or want help getting another? Otherwise, I was just doing homework at one of the tables around the corner. Well, trying to. I'm not really concentrating very well."

Words: 156 Tags: Hydro, openRoy mentioned for Noah not to worry about the noise, which was easier said than done. Still, Noah cracked a smile when Roy gave one of his own, alluding to the fact that Eddie wasn't the quietest roommate.
Not that Eddie was bad, Noah was sure. Eddie was one of the friendliest in the manor, but Noah was still thankful that his own roommate was conscious (perhaps a little too conscious) of Noah's own quirks. Mason was calm and quiet, obviously trying to make sure Noah was at ease. While Noah appreciated that, he was also really appreciative of how casual Roy's interactions with him were.
Roy asked if Noah got the book he wanted, to which Noah nodded, then asked if Noah needed help with getting another, to which Noah shook his head.
Noah tilted his head and typed out another message on his cell phone: "Why can't you concentrate very well? Something wrong?"

Tag: Hush open Words: 172 Noah answered his questions nonverbally, which was his preferred method, and Roy found himself almost mimicking Noah's quiet by nodding in return before remembering that he could -- and probably should -- speak aloud.
"Alright," was Roy's answer, which seemed inadequate, but there wasn't a need for him to elaborate further. Noah did, however, type out another message on his phone, and Roy waited until he could answer.
To the question, Roy actually shrugged. "Nothing's wrong," he said, maneuvering around Noah and gesturing to the other for him to follow Roy. Roy led the pair back to the table where Roy had his school books out. "Maybe I'm overthinking stuff... Or I'm just not interested in doing homework right now.
"I never really had trouble trying to do my homework before," he continued, plopping back down in his seat. "The novelty of it may have just worn off by now since I've been at a public school for about two months. I'm starting to understand why some of the others procrastinate on their homework..."

Words: 187 Tags: Hydro openNoah blinked when Roy admitted that nothing was wrong, and the smaller of the pair followed when Roy led the way back to the table that he had been using. Noah carefully took another seat, gazing at the textbooks that Roy had set about in front of him, and listened as Roy spoke.
Noah scooted closer and tentatively reached out to touch the back of one of Roy's hands to speak telepathically to him. "Haven't heard of anyone who actually cared to do homework," he admitted. "It's not my favorite thing either.
"Have you not been to a public school before Bayville High?" Noah asked, catching the words that Roy said. "I haven't either, not really. Went to a couple of elementary schools, but was bounced around the foster system too much to really stick to a place..."
He wasn't quite sure if Roy would care about his past, but Noah was certain that Roy would at least be polite. Noah knew of Mason's family, and Willow and Eddie weren't strangers to sharing their own stories, but Noah realized he didn't know too much about Roy.

Tag: Hush open Words: 186 Roy didn't move as Noah shifted close enough to reach out to touch the back of Roy's hand. Hearing Noah's voice in his head was a little odd, but Roy would like to think he would get used to it soon enough. It was Noah's main form of communication, after all.
"This is my first time in a public school, yeah," Roy confirmed. "I actually found it nice to pretend that I'm a regular kid, but... Yeah, I'm definitely getting over the homework part of it really quickly.
"You were a foster kid, huh?" Roy tilted his head, mulling over Noah's words and trying to figure his own out. "I came from Ohio. Was in the state's main orphanage for as long as I can remember. No one really wanted to take on the kid who passed out from being in the sun too long."
His words were casual, no hint of bitterness in his tone. He just spoke in a matter-of-fact way.
"I'm sorry you were bounced around, as you say," Roy said, "but I hope you're doing alright here in the manor so far."

Words: 160 Tags: HydroRoy confirmed that he was at a public school for the first time (and was rightfully over homework at this point), and Noah was a little surprised. Roy himself always seemed like he knew what he was doing, so to hear that he had only been in a public school for, what, a few months was odd.
Noah nodded when Roy echoed about him being a foster kid and revealed that Roy had also come from an orphanage. With a crooked smile, Noah said, "We sound like we have more in common than I thought we would."
Roy said that he hoped Noah was doing alright in the manor so far, and Noah nodded again. "I am. Thanks. It's... big, but everyone has been really nice." He paused, his fingers twitching over Roy's hand before settling again. "I think I'm still getting used to the high school. There's so many people. Kind of hard not to get jostled around sometimes."

Tag: HushWords: 175 Roy gave Noah a crooked smile when the other mentioned that they had more in common than he originally thought. Thinking on it further, it was true that Noah and he were, at the moment, the only new recruits without a family outside of the Xavier Institute. Willow's family had her parents and siblings, Eddie had his grandparents, Mason his mother... When the holidays came around, Roy and Noah would most likely be the only students still at the manor with the teachers.
"Good." Roy nodded when Noah said that everyone at the manor has been really nice. "Not that I expected otherwise," he added, although deep down he did half-expect Noah to say something about the friendlier new recruits maybe being a bit much for him.
Instead, Noah mentioned that the high school was the more difficult place to get used to. "Yeah, I hear ya. You got some familiar faces in your classes, though, right?" Roy himself didn't see Noah throughout the school day. He'd help keep an eye out for him otherwise.

Words: 174 Tags: HydroNoah shared Roy's smile, it growing a touch wider when Roy stated that it was good everyone at the manor was being friendly to him. Likewise, Noah hadn't expected anyone to treat him otherwise -- in fact, many of his housemates seemed to go out of their way to make him comfortable, which was endearing and a bit embarrassing -- and he doubted he would complain about them anyway.
Roy asked if anyone was in Noah's classes, and he shrugged before tapping the back of Roy's hand again. "Only Willow in first period. She, Mason, and Eddie are in my lunch period."
Hopefully next year, presuming everyone was still at the Xavier Institute next year, Noah would be more comfortable with the people in his classes. It was still a little foreign to consider those who housed with him as his friends, but Noah hadn't been told they were anything else.
Gesturing to Roy's homework, he said, "I hope your classes are going well, too. Do you see many of the others throughout the school day?"

Tag: HushWords: 180 Roy was a little surprised to hear that Noah only saw Willow outside of the lunch period. He supposed he shouldn't be surprised considering that Willow and Noah were the only freshmen among those at the manor.
"I'm glad you at least see some of them throughout the day," Roy said. With a crooked smile, he asked, "How loud are those three during the lunch period? I can't imagine Willow or Eddie being anything but enthusiastic during that time." Mason would adapt to whatever energy was surrounding him, Roy was sure.
"I actually see Willow in sixth period," Roy said, answering Noah's question, "and Eddie in seventh. Think at the moment, I'm the solitary new recruit who has lunch period five instead of four with the rest of you."
He honestly hadn't thought of that until now. He had people he considered friends in that lunch period, fortunately, but it was a little odd to think that none of them were from the manor.
Huh. Maybe he was more used to being in a public high school than he thought.

Words: 198 Tags: HydroNoah actually chuckled under his breath, a little huff of laughter, at Roy's crooked smile and question about how loud their housemates were at lunch. Touching the back of Roy's hand, Noah said, "They're not too bad. Willow gets enthusiastic with her stories and Eddie matches her energy. Mason is more casual, but has a loud laugh." His fingers hovered above Roy's hand for a brief moment before making skin contact again. "It's nice to listen to them all."
Roy mentioned that he sees Willow and Eddie in classes during the later part of the day, and Noah tilted his head at the fact that Roy was the only student from the manor to have the other lunch period. Noah presumed Roy was fine, he seemed like the type of guy to not have to worry about having friends, but Noah still asked, "Are you okay with that?"
Not that Roy could really do anything about it, but... Well, Sierra was the principal. Could she have moved Roy's schedule so he could be with the other new recruits?
Noah actually caught sight of the textbook Roy had and asked, "You're in Earth Science? I have that class, too."

Tag: HushWords: 171 Notes: Wanna wrap this up? I like the dynamic between these two! "Sounds about right," Roy said when Noah described how Willow, Eddie, and Mason acted during their lunch block. Roy was also pleased that Noah seemed to be getting used to them all, enough so that he actually thought it was nice to listen to their more energetic housemates.
Speaking of their lunch period, Noah appeared concerned that Roy was the only one of them in the other lunch block, and Roy only shrugged. "I'm fine with it," he said. "I have other classmates in my lunch block, so I'm not eating alone in a corner."
Other classmates and the girl he was casually dating.
Noah actually asked about the textbook and class that Roy had on the table, and Roy nodded. "Yeah, I got it period three. Didn't realize you had it, too. You got homework to do for the class this weekend? If you want, we can do the homework together. Like I said earlier, I'm not concentrating very well, so studying with someone else may be a good solution."
