Friday October 6, 2023 | 216 words | open! Bobby smiled as he ran a hand along the body of the Blackbird jet, enjoying the feel of the plane under his fingertips. Ever since he had been a new recruit himself, his favorite aspect of being part of the X-Men (aside from, of course, rescuing others and furthering pro-mutant sentiments) was piloting the Blackbird. Auto and avian mechanics was a favorite hobby of his all throughout his life, and it was a no-brainer that he spent a lot of his free time in the hanger with the Blackbird.
He had taken it out for some exercise since returning to the manor the past few months, of course, but it was still always a thrill to him whenever he got some down time to just tinker with the jet's mechanics.
It was obvious that the Blackbird had been well cared for all these years, what with the majority of the other teachers being licensed pilots for it, and Bobby briefly wondered if he could volunteer to take full responsibility for the jet. After all, Kurt was busy running the whole institute and Sierra had a high school to care for, so Bobby should find some aspect of the place to call his own, right?
Maybe he could get away with taking the Blackbird out for a spin later...

Sierra was at the entrance of the hanger, hanging back as she watched Bobby flit around the Blackbird jet. Sierra was obviously very much in tune to electronics because of her mutation, but she always found it amusing how much Bobby was enthralled with such things as well. It was something that, if Sierra had been bolder as a teenager, they could have had in common when they were younger.
Of course, considering that one of the first things Bobby and a few of the other new mutants had done after being introduced to the Blackbird was take it for a joyride, Sierra had opted to keep mostly to herself rather than associate further with them lest she also get in trouble.
"Considering how often you're found here," Sierra continued when she got Bobby's attention, "the cameras sound more resigned rather than alarmed or informative whenever they see you around here now."

"I guess that makes sense," Bobby said, looking over at Sierra with a grin. "I understand your abilities much better nowadays than I did when we were teens. It would have been much too easy for you to have been a snitch back then."
He did laugh when Sierra mentioned that the cameras were resigned to his presence than anything else. "Well, glad they're used to me. Now all I can think of is some electronic voice groaning like, 'Ugh, he's in the hanger again.'"
At this point, Bobby was on top of the Blackbird, having used his abilities to make an iced staircase to allow him to reach the area so he could give the outside of the windows a good cleaning. "Do the cameras think I'm going to break anything?" he asked cheekily. "Or is there another reason as to why they always inform you as to my whereabouts?"
He wiggled his eyebrows at that.

He was correct, but despite her aloofness back then, even she had known it would have been against the teenage code to get others into trouble like that.
"If the security cameras could have tones," Sierra said in response to Bobby's laugh, "then, yes, I imagine they would sound as exasperated as that."
She raised an eyebrow when Bobby wiggled his own, taking a brief moment to realize that he was teasing, before saying, "Nothing of that sort. It's not even truly because of you. I have the security cameras trained, if you will, to let me know whenever someone comes down to the sub-basement or hangers. It's more so to keep an eye on the students in our care rather than be too informed as to your whereabouts."

Sierra didn't take the bait (not that Bobby expected her to) when he teased her, and he chuckled when she mentioned that the security system probably would sound exasperated had it the capabilities to do so.
Her actual reasoning as to why the network informed her about his whereabouts made sense. It wasn't exactly him that the network was concerned about. It was more so about the location.
"Ah, alright," Bobby said with a nod. "It's more so to ensure the students don't go anywhere they're not supposed to or cause any trouble. Gee, I wonder why you would want to know if any kids are around the Blackbird..."
His grin was lazy. He was certain that Sierra remembered the kind of trouble the new mutants got into once they had been introduced to the Blackbird. He couldn't fault her for being cautious at this time in their lives.
"Hey," Bobby said, "obviously you keep an eye on this place to make sure the kids don't do anything they're not supposed to, but have Kurt or you ever thought of teaching any of the kids how to drive the jet?"

Tag: Iceman, open Words: 150 Sierra merely shared a smirk with Bobby when he wondered aloud as to why she would feel the need to keep a watchful eye out in regards to the hanger and jets. She was certain they were both thinking of the same memory from when they were teenagers.
She watched him for a moment as he continued washing the jet and was thinking of excusing herself so she wouldn't bother him any longer, but Bobby did voice a question. She tilted her head for a brief moment, thinking on it, before saying, "Truthfully, the majority of the students don't even have driver's licenses." Indeed, Mason may have been the only one. "A pilot license for the kids has yet to be a thought, to me, anyway. I don't know if Kurt has ever had the idea.
"Why?" she asked, her tone curious. "Are you thinking we should offer such lessons?"

Bobby grinned when he saw Sierra smirk. As teenagers, he really only remembered her as aloof, stoic, generally on her own. To see her before him and actually smiling, bordering on laughing, was nice.
She answered his question about the new recruits and licenses, realizing that he really didn't even think about the students' ages, as he paused to mull over her response.
"Oh," was Bobby's brilliant reply. "Heh, I didn't even think of that. When I was around their ages, all I could think about was getting my license. Who's job is it to teach the kids how to drive, anyway?"
Because he wasn't sure if he wanted to volunteer for that role. Piloting a jet, sure. A car? Not so much. There was a lot less traffic in the air than on the road.
He shrugged and said, "Pilot lessons may not be a bad idea. The Blackbird is an important part of our family. I'm sure the flight simulation program is still active in the Danger Room, right?"

Tag: Iceman, open Words: 178 Bobby's words regarding getting his driver's license as a teenager made sense to Sierra. It was an exciting milestone for most. Sierra herself had been neutral to the idea, but she was required to be neutral for most things lest her abilities went out of control.
"Honestly, I don't believe we've thought of that," Sierra admitted when Bobby asked who was going to teach the students how to drive. "I believe the high school has a program for it, anyway. If the students want one of us to teach them, are you volunteering for the job?"
Sierra wasn't sure how well she'd do as a driving instructor. She could keep calm, of course, but she wasn't sure if her nerves would be shot depending on how well the students were as beginning drivers.
"It should be," Sierra said when the topic turned to the flight simulator program. "I can double-check the program, if you'd like. I presume you'd like to be the instructor for the program? I'm sure at least some of the students would like to learn."

152 words | Gigabyte | maybe wrap this up? It was nice to have these two together! "Oh, hell no," Bobby said when Sierra asked if he was volunteering to teach teenagers to drive. "Nope. I remember what a little hellion I was as a teenage driver. I do not want to be on the other side of that. On a related note, if we ever get in contact with Logan again, remind me to apologize to him.
"Now, the flight simulator," Bobby continued, "is a program I wouldn't mind being the instructor for. At the very least, with a simulation, I know we wouldn't be damaging any real-life buildings. Or people."
He finished up the window he had been cleaning before sliding down his ice ramp and landing right in front of Sierra. "I wouldn't mind being there with you when you check on the program itself. And I'll probably need you or Kurt to give me a refresher when it comes to the flight simulator program itself, heh."

Tag: IcemanWords: 160 Notes: Gotcha! Thanks! Sierra couldn't help but laugh at Bobby's response to her questioning whether he'd be willing to play the role of driving instructor. It was both impassioned and unexpected, particularly since he evidently drew on his own memories of such a time.
"Noted," she said. She watched him for a moment before he came sliding back down to the ground and landing in front of her, speaking of the flight simulator program.
"I'll let you know when I go to check on the program itself," she promised. "Your input will be valuable, as well." She began turning to leave the hanger, figuring that their conversation was coming to a natural close and Bobby himself seemed finished with the Blackbird. "Although I'm obviously willing to help and Kurt will be too, I'm sure, I'm certain you won't need much of a refresher, though. I seem to recall you figuring out the dynamics and techniques of the program naturally enough as a teenager."
