darling just dive right in and follow my lead tags: open!
perfect -- ed sheeran words: 170 notes: fri july 28, 2023; word count minus the song lyrics in the post His baby had finally come back to him.
Although it had taken a little while, Eddie's grandparents had finally been able to ship over Eddie's acoustic guitar. He had wanted them to do so immediately after he moved to the Xavier Institute, but his grandparents had insisted on him getting good grades in his new school. Despite his attempts at trying to explain -- even simply -- what kind of school the Xavier Institute was, it still took his grandparents some time before deciding to send over his guitar. Now his beautiful walnut-wood, steel string guitar was back in his hands and sounding gorgeous with its midrange tones.
Tuning up the guitar, Eddie hummed a couple of low bars, enjoying hearing the notes echoing back to him as his guitar pick stroked the strings. Once it was tuned up to his satisfaction, he began to play one of the first songs that he had fully learned to play with the acoustic guitar, the notes in the baritone range for his singing voice.
"Baby, I'm dancing in the dark, with you between my arms... Barefoot on the grass, listening to our favorite song..."

Tag: Foxtrot, open! Words: 167 Roy had honestly thought that someone had left one of the stereos on in the living room. He had followed the music from down the hall, a little curious, and then was a bit surprised when he came upon the room to discover that it was Eddie strumming a guitar and singing.
Roy leaned against the threshold, just listening and watching, as Eddie played his music. It wasn't a song that Roy knew too well -- granted, Roy didn't know many of the modern songs today; it was something that he was learning about from his roommate -- but it sounded nice coming from Eddie.
He tried to stay quiet as Eddie played, not wanting to interrupt. When Roy did get a chance to speak, his voice was quiet, almost as if he was afraid of breaking some sort of spell that had settled over the room. "That was great," Roy praised. "How long have you been playing guitar?"
He paused a moment. "...When did you get the guitar?"

oh I never knew you were the someone waiting for me perfect -- ed sheeran words: 188 notes: nada Despite Roy's voice being quiet, Eddie still was a bit startled from his roommate talking. Nevertheless, he grinned from Roy's praise.
"Thanks, man," Eddie said, his fingers trailing gently over the guitar's strings. The slight touch made the smallest vibration and the softest notes. "My grandparents just sent over the guitar. Got it delivered about a half hour ago, heh. I'm so glad it didn't get ruined from FedEx!
"I've had the guitar itself for a few years," he continued. "It's probably my favorite instrument. I heard that my father used to play guitar, so it's a nice way to try to keep his memory alive, you know?"
Vaguely, Eddie wondered if there was any old sheet music hiding somewhere down in his grandparents' basement. He knew they hadn't kept any of his father's -- their son's -- old instruments after he moved out and got married. Perhaps they would have if they had been able to predict that their son would pass away in an accident.
"What about you?" Eddie asked. "You don't play any instruments, do you? Haven't seen you dance yet, either," he added with a grin.

Tag: Foxtrot, open Words: 153 Roy smiled as Eddie gushed about his guitar, taking a seat near his roommate on the sofa but was careful not to crowd Eddie and his guitar.
"Your favorite instrument to play because of your father or just in general?" Roy asked, his tone casual. He didn't want to dredge up any sad memories for his roommate, but he was genuinely curious. Besides, Eddie sounded proud of his guitar and Roy wanted to share his interest. "How many instruments do you play, anyway?"
Eddie then turned the questions onto Roy, and Roy shook his head. "Nah, no instruments for me," he said. "We used to have an old piano at the orphanage, but it wasn't really used by any of us kids. Definitely no dancing. I'm not that graceful. And don't think I missed that 'yet,'" he added with a crooked grin. "I can't imagine any scenario where you would catch me dancing."

It had been a week and half since she arrived to the mansion, taking the time to get settled in and getting a feel for the place. She had a roommate, Willow, of whom she hadn't really talked much to yet. Or really any of the other recruits in general. Where her shyness had fallen away with meeting Bobby, the first other mutant she had actually met, it was in overdrive here. For as heavy as her iron bones made her, she was fine being that hidden wallflower except when she needed to be. Today though, that would be a different story. In hand, Corrine had a couple new books centered around some archeology and ancient artifacts, books she intended to use as ideas for her sculpting, maybe even something to test her powers with. She already had one cracked open, a few pages already turned after she had gotten a quick snack in the kitchen and was heading towards the living room for some quiet reading. She was deep into the reading enough she didn't give the singing she had heard much thought initially. She assumed in the moment it was someone's radio or phone playing, which with there being a few teenagers around seemed pretty standard. It was only when she got to the threshold and heard her fellow recruits talking did she realize the music hadn't been coming from any device, but one of them. And it was a little too late to back out when she had been so focused on her reading. " Oh, sorry! I didn't mean to intrude!" She apologized as she closed her book, blushing with embarrassment for not paying better attention and beginning to back out. 'cause we were just kids when we fell in love perfect -- ed sheeran words: 242 notes: the more the merrier! also, was there a piano at the institute in the show or am I making that up? Eddie made sure there was plenty of room for Roy on the sofa so no one (including the guitar) got jostled. He shared a smile with his roommate, pleased that someone else seemed interested in his guitar.
"I think both," Eddie said in response to Roy's question about whether or not his was his father's influence that made the guitar his favorite. "The connection I have with it is probably a heavy factor, but I do find it a lot of fun to play.
"I do pretty well with the piano and violin, too," he added as an answer to Roy's other question. "I've dabbled in some other instruments, too, like the flute and a bit of the drums back in elementary and middle school, but guitar, piano, and violin are the ones I stuck with throughout my years of playing. It's why I was excited to see a piano here at the institute! Now I just need to get my violin over here."
Eddie grinned when Roy mentioned that, no, Roy himself didn't dance. "I'm taking that as a challenge--"
His words were cut off by a third voice, and Eddie turned his attention and smile to the threshold, finding one of the newer new recruits. "Hey, don't worry about it," Eddie said, doing his damnedest to remember the girl's name. "You're not interrupting anything. Do you dance? Roy here claims he doesn't, and I think we need to fix that."

Tag: @thyreophora, FoxtrotWords: 190 Eddie's response regarding his guitar made perfect sense to Roy. He nodded along, listening to Eddie's words, and vaguely wondering if Roy himself would ever find something he was passionate about like Eddie.
For example, Roy was good at swimming because of his mutation. Eddie, on the other hand, loved music despite -- or, at least, in a separate way from -- his mutation. Eddie had this hobby, this passion, before he knew he was a mutant. It was a lucky coincidence that Eddie's mutant ability had to do with soundwaves.
Maybe Roy could enlist some of the other new recruits' help to find something he enjoyed outside of his identity as a mutant.
He gave Eddie a crooked smile as Eddie mentioned he was taking it as a challenge to get Roy to dance, and even said that to Corrine when she appeared in the threshold of the room.
"It's not something that needs to be fixed," Roy said dryly. Turning his attention to his other housemate, Roy said, "How are you doing, Corrine? Eddie and I were just chatting about music and how no one needs to see me dance."

At least her two housemates seemed pretty laid back. Despite having not really interacted with the two boys, they seemed to not mind her presence or interrupting their conversation. Given what she had been hearing and Roy's words the two had been deep in conversation about music, the guitar confirming the music she had been hearing came from Eddie. " Wait, that was you singing? Huh, I thought that was someone's playlist." Corrine was surprised, having thought it was a professional singer rather than one of her fellow recruits. " You sure you shouldn't be going professional with skills like that?" She lightly teased, though there was also a genuine question under the teasing as she moved further into the living room, setting the two books aside on a side table. But when Eddie inquired if she danced, she quickly raised her hands and shook her head, " I'm with Roy on this one Eddie, dancing is definitely not for me! Not coordinated enough for that." Pointing towards the metallic bony spikes after she said that, " And that's before all the iron in my bones. Add those into the mix, you're lucky I don't have two left feet." Maybe she could save Roy from having to be forced into a dance by Eddie, but she had a gut feeling Eddie wouldn't be taking no to this little challenge so easily. As she spoke, Corrine moved around one of the other couches, moving to sit across from her fellow recruits as they spoke. If they were going to be there a while, she figured she should try to get comfortable and not be too standoffish. Might seem a little rude doing so. perfect -- ed sheeran words: 189 notes: I'll go with it! xD Eddie grinned, ducking his head briefly when Corrine (thank God Roy mentioned her name) teased him. "Thanks," he said. "That kind of praise makes me feel warm and fuzzy.
"That was, and maybe still is, the dream," Eddie said with a modest shrug when Corrine asked if he should be going professional. "Since I found out about my mutant abilities, though... My powers right now aren't affected by my voice but I don't know if one day that will change. Probably wouldn't be ethical if that ends up being the case, right?"
In order to avoid sounding melancholy, he added, "Right now, I want to just play my instruments. Roy, what would you think if I brought a tuba into our room?"
It was revealed that it was two against one in the dance debate, and Eddie dramatically flopped back on the sofa while feigning a stabbing motion. "Et tu, Corrine? Does that mean neither of you," he asked, sounding a little more serious and sitting up as he glanced back and forth between the other two, "would be willing to go to any of the high school dances?"

Tag: @thyreophora, FoxtrotWords: 217 Roy listened as Eddie thanked Corrine for the praise and proceeded to talk about how, at least once upon a time, Eddie had thought about doing music professionally. It sounded like it was still a dream for him, but he was conscious of his mutant abilities and how they could affect him as a singer.
Roy's brows furrowed in thought for a moment before asking, "What do you mean by unethical? Are you thinking that maybe you could use your voice as more than just directing the sound waves? Like, hypnotism or something?" He wasn't quite sure if that question made sense, but he hoped that Eddie got the gist of what he was trying to ask.
What a strange thought that would be, though. Sierra had mentioned something about how mutants' abilities could -- and most likely would -- continue to grow more powerful as time went on. It was why they were at the institute, actually.
He did give Eddie a lazy grin, and cast it at Corrine in thanks and solidarity, when she agreed with Roy regarding dancing. Eddie then asked the pair of them about the high school dances, and Roy was briefly at a loss for words.
"Uh, I honestly haven't thought about it," he said. "...Do public schools have a lot of dances?"

I will not give you up this time perfect -- ed sheeran words: 220 notes: Continuing since it's been a little while. Obviously TC jump back in when you can! Roy called Eddie out on his comments about his powers and voice, and Eddie gave his friend another weak shrug.
"Well," he said, trying to figure out how to explain his thoughts, "it's something that's been in the back of my mind since I got here, really. When I was being sold on coming here, both me and my grandparents, although I don't think they really understand what we do here, and part of the spiel was how our abilities can grow whether or not we're ready. Since I do stuff with soundwaves, it stands to reason my voice would be able to be part of that one day, right?"
Eddie paused. "It's kind of a scary thought that I could accidentally hurt someone just by talking or singing. There's no evidence that it will happen at all, it's just... It's a thought..."
The conversation turned to public school dances, and Eddie gave the others a crooked smile. "Despite how small my hometown is," he said, "am I one of the few new recruits to have gone to a public school?
"But, yeah," he said, "public schools tend to have a few dances throughout the school year. I guess we can ask Sierra what Bayville High is planning. I'm hoping for a couple of holiday dances, at the very least."

Tag: Foxtrot, @thyreophora Words: 174 Roy listened as Eddie more or less confessed some fears regarding his mutant abilities, staying quiet as his roommate explained his thoughts.
"That does make sense," Roy said gently. He didn't want to dismiss Eddie's fears or give his friend any false positives about how he was sure Eddie's powers wouldn't grow in that way. "I think we all have fears like that... I can liquidize myself. I don't like doing it, although I have been told I should probably practice it, but what if I can't pull myself back together again?
"Have you tried talking to one of the teachers about it?" Roy asked. "It may help or they may be able to devise some ways to help you practice so you don't worry about it as much."
When the conversation turned to school dances, Roy gave a small shrug. "Well, I haven't been to a public school before... It was too dangerous for me as a kid, so I was homeschooled at the orphanage. School dances are really that important around here?"

fighting against all odds i know we'll be alright this time perfect -- ed sheeran words: 202 notes: nada Eddie gently hugged his guitar to himself as he listened to Roy also share his fears with his powers. He didn't really have anything he could say to help comfort Roy, and he wouldn't want to give him any false positivity, either.
Instead, Eddie nudged Roy and said, "Guess we all have some risk to our powers, huh?
"Uh, yeah." Eddie scratched the back of his head as Roy suggested talking to a teacher. "I kind of hint at it, but I don't even really know how I would be able to practice that, you know? I guess it would be the best thing to do, though, huh? What about you? Have you spoken to someone about your own fears?"
Because if Roy was encouraging Eddie to seek out help, even just to talk to someone, then Eddie was going to do the same to Roy.
He grinned as Roy revealed that he had never been to a public school before. "Well, I can't say anything about Bayville High," Eddie said, "since I'll also be new, but, yeah, public schools tend to do a lot of dances for socialization and school spirit, things like that. They're usually pretty fun, in my opinion."

Tag: FoxtrotWords: 200 Eddie nudged him and Roy gave him a crooked smile. "Think risk is just part of being a mutant," Roy said. It was one of the main reasons why they were at the Xavier Institute, after all.
Roy hummed in thought as Eddie spoke about potentially practicing his abilities for whenever they may evolve, and Roy said, "I'm not sure... Best case scenario is that we practice so much with our abilities that we grow with our powers so we're never overwhelmed by them.
"I've mentioned it to Kurt and Sierra," Roy said when Eddie turned the question regarding talking to the teachers back on him. "They were probably briefed on me before I came from the orphanage, anyway. Most of the caretakers thought I was allergic to the sun throughout my life." He tapped the water bottle that he had with him. "I've passed out from dehydration before, so figured it would be best to be as transparent as possible with my powers and what I knew about them."
Eddie explained school dances, and Roy gave him a small frown. "They really don't sound like my thing, then," he said, "but... I dunno, maybe I'll give them a try."

i don't deserve this you look perfect tonight perfect -- ed sheeran words: 197 notes: just realized this thread was dated for July, if you'd like to end it? "Suppose it is," Eddie agreed when Roy mentioned that risk just went hand-in-hand with being a mutant. Teasingly, he added, "We'll get through it with the power of friendship and all."
Roy said how he had mentioned his own fears to Kurt and Sierra, and Eddie frowned at the fact that his friend had evidently passed out before due to side effects of his mutation. Eddie made a mental note to try to keep an eye on Roy whenever they were out and about together, even if it was just to make sure they had easy access to water. Eddie was lucky in the sense that he didn't have any potentially dangerous side effects like that.
He almost groaned when Roy mentioned that school dances didn't sound like his thing, but Eddie grinned when his friend said he'd probably give them a try.
"I hope so," Eddie said. "Obviously, I won't force you to go... I'll bother you about it, but not force you, but I do hope you'll have fun at whatever school dances you happen to go to. I'm sure Willow will join us, and you can dance with both of us!" he added cheekily.
