Date: Tuesday, August 1, 2023 Words: 220 Tags: Open! Notes: Just a random thread open at the manor.Kurt lightly rolled the bottle between his two hands, allowing the sloshing sounds to accompany the few crickets he heard. Becks wasn't a bad lager, a German brand even if it was brewed somewhere in the US. Light, dry, just a hint of sweetness -- it hit the spot on a night lit up by the full moon. The bottle's gentle sloshing waves were rather soothing and reminded Kurt of the few times he drank with Logan after he had come of drinking age in America (knowing Logan, he wouldn't have minded a little underage drinking as long as Kurt was home safe at the manor, but Kurt suspected that the professor and Ororo were against it).
From his position in the backyard, lounging on the grass, Kurt glanced up at the night sky, wondering where Logan and the others were now. He missed them.
Of course, Kurt always missed them, but he understood the need to move on with one's life. Still, it was a bit of a blow when it took so quickly for the rest of the X-Men to disperse after the professor's disappearance. He supposed he was lucky that Sierra, Bobby, and Jubilee had stuck around or come back. It was home for all of them, and it would always be open for anyone who needed it.

" There's the infamous fuzzy dude." Jubilee's voice carried from the backdoor, shutting it behind her. Even in the darkness, there was no mistaking the blue fuzzball. Ordinarily, the demon looking mutant might have blended into the darkness, but with the full moon out and shining on the manor ground he wasn't hard to miss. In hand, the woman had a styrofoam case of leftovers, having a half-eaten burger and some salty fries. Quite honestly, she found herself unable to exactly sleep that night, still feeling the tail end of her excitement in being back at the manor. By then, it had been almost a month since she returned give or take a few days. She had settled in quickly, had taken time to get familiar with the changes, the mansion, and the danger room, as well as her coming new duties as an X-man and instructor. It was all so new, a major shift from what she had dealt with so long ago at this point. And tonight happened to be one of those nights her thoughts were far too filled with worries and what ifs for the future. While she had stepped outside with the intent for some fresh air, she hadn't expected to see anyone else at this time, but didn't seem to really mind seeing a familiar face. " If I had known you were out here Kurt, I would have asked if you wanted something from the kitchen." Jubilee greeted with a smile, moving to sit in the grass near the blue mutant setting the box down in front of her as she glanced up at the moon. " Can't sleep either I'm guessing?" Words: 154 Tags: @jubilee, open!A smile curled on Kurt's lips as he heard Jubilee before seeing her. She took a seat on the grass nearby as Kurt lounged, and he stared curiously at the styrofoam container for a brief moment before bringing his attention back to his friend.
"No worries," he said when Jubilee mentioned that she would have offered to get him something from the kitchen. He lifted his beer bottle a touch, showing that he was good on that end anyway.
"Not particularly," Kurt said when Jubilee asked if he couldn't sleep either. "I was just relaxing before giving sleep a try. Every once in a while when I'm hoping all the new recruits are in bed, I sneak out for a drink.
"Although, you mentioned either," Kurt added, raising an eyebrow at Jubilee. "Are you having trouble sleeping? You seemed to have settled back here very well. Is there anything that I can help with?"

"Are we having a meeting or something?"
Bobby appeared by the back door, having made his way through the kitchen to put away some of the dishes from his late-night ice cream snack and noticing a few figures outside. He almost sounded the alarm, taking a few minutes to realize it was a couple of his housemates and friends before joining them.
He plopped down not too far from Jubilee and contemplated trying to steal a french fry from her food container. If they were still teenagers, he wouldn't have hesitated. Now, even though they had been back at the manor for about a month together, Bobby was still figuring out their new dynamic as adults and teachers.
It was even odd seeing Kurt with a beer bottle, despite their ages.
"Everything okay with you two?" Bobby asked. The atmosphere seemed casual, maybe a little melancholy, between his two friends. "Or is there something I can help with?"

Tag: @jubilee Nightcrawler IcemanWords: 188 Notes: *throws all the teachers in a thread* Sierra rubbed her eyes, finding it ironic that she was still plagued with dry eyes despite having the ability to communicate with her computers. Despite her technopathy, she did find it easier to have a computer screen with the relevant tabs right in front of her. It was satisfying to physically use her electronics; background tasks could be relegated to her mental abilities.
At this point, Sierra quietly acknowledged that she could use a break. She could feel the static in the air, a little more noticeable since she started her computer tasks, and moved to go to her small balcony. Leaning against the banister, Sierra began to release some sparks from her hands -- and probably her hair, but that wasn't quite as voluntary -- into the night air.
She did notice that Kurt and Jubilee, and then Bobby when he joined them shortly, were out on the lawn. Sierra's curiosity got the better of her and she figured she could be done working for the night.
Quietly, Sierra made her way downstairs and slipped out the back door to join the other instructors. "Good evening, everyone. Everything alright?"

Gigabyte, Gigabyte," Ah, just enjoying some downtime then, sounds like a good idea." Jubilee picked up what remained of half of her burger she had gotten for lunch earlier in the day, taking a big bite as she listened to Kurt. At least she wasn't being a bother to him. Although, a part of her did feel a little bad for interrupting his quiet night since she knew she could be a little...noisy to say the least. But his question in kind was more than fair. Swallowing her bite, Jubilee opened her mouth to answer before another familiar voice sounded from behind them, turning her head to see the cryokinetic himself join them, and not far behind him was Sierra. What a reunion this was. " Nah, we're just working on our moon tans, heard it's the new in thing these days." Jubilee answered the two teasingly, offering a playful grin. Not the funniest joke, but she couldn't hide her good mood to be among familiar, friendly faces in one place again. Even in a state of having trouble sleeping, she could find the good side in all this. Not that there was anything bad happening to begin with. " And like I was about to tell Kurt, I couldn't sleep. Being back here, all the changes, our changes, everything happening all at once...guess the realization is just hitting me like a ton of bricks." The young woman's grin shifted to a smile, moving the container a smidge towards Bobby giving wordless permission to steal a fry or two if he wanted. Not like he didn't use to do that all the time when they were teenagers. Changes upon changes, it could be overwhelming. It had been a month, but a lot had been going on in that time and had only just begun to settle in. Taking another quick bite, Jubilee continued after swallowing, " You think the new recruits will have a better sense than we did when we lived here? They seem like a good bunch." She inquired. Words: 245 Tags: Iceman Gigabyte @jubileeKurt smiled gently when Jubilee acknowledged that he was just merely enjoying some downtime. He was going to make a quip about how the occasional quiet night was needed with a houseful of teenagers and how he started to understand why Logan drank, but the pair were soon joined by both Bobby and Sierra.
Kurt saluted the other pair with his bottle, being sure they each found decent seats to complete their little circle on the lawn. "Guten abend, meine freunde."
He chuckled as Jubilee responded to Bobby and Sierra about what was going on -- and if anything was wrong -- before she responded to his earlier question. Kurt's tail twitched a bit behind him as he thought on her answer before replying himself.
"That I can understand," Kurt said to her. "There are times I still wake up and cannot fall back asleep because of similar reasons. As teenagers, I don't believe we were able to fully appreciate all of the hard work the professor and our teachers did.
"But as adults now," he added, looking at his friends each in turn, "I can't begin to tell you how much I appreciate each and every one of you for being here with me on this side of the X-Men. I hope each of you feel comfortable coming to me if you ever need a boost or help, of course." He glanced at Sierra last, knowing that the pair had spoken about such a thing before.

Bobby gave Jubilee a crooked smile when she wordlessly moved her container of french fries closer to him, allowing him to snag a couple. It was nice that some things didn't change.
The air was comfortable between all of the X-Men, something that Bobby was learning to relish, and he listened as Jubilee responded to a question from Kurt that Bobby hadn't heard. Bobby nodded along with the response, saying, "Tell me about it. I'm not sure if taking Logan's old room was such a great idea. I'm comfortable, don't get me wrong," he added, those particular words directed at Kurt and Sierra, "but it is weird. I almost walked into Mason's room the other night, forgetting that that wasn't my dorm anymore. Is this what it's like to grow up?"
Kurt responded to Jubilee with a heartfelt sentiment and, while Bobby agreed with the words, he nudged one of Kurt's legs with his own. Grinning, Bobby said, "That was incredibly corny, but appreciated. Right back at ya."
Jubilee asked a question about the new recruits, and Bobby said, "I like them, but I'm definitely trying not to have favorites, ha! I think Willow and Eddie remind me the most of our old group," he added, gesturing between Jubilee and himself.

Tag: @jubilee, Nightcrawler, IcemanWords: 573 Sierra took a seat on the grass with the others, glancing up at the sky and the bright moon in appreciation for it being a cloudless night.
She listened as Jubilee spoke, mentioning how she was having a little trouble sleeping due to being back at the Xavier Institute. While her comment was more general, Bobby took the reins and agreed with Jubilee while actually stating that it was weird to, presumably, be considered one of the adults of the institute. She was going to suggest that Bobby could switch bedrooms, but he did assure them that he was comfortable so she refrained.
"Sleep was never something I had trouble with, admittedly," Sierra said apologetically. "The electricity I gather makes it difficult for me to sleep anyway, so I'm used to staying awake." She paused. "That's probably not too healthy, now that I said that aloud.
"It is strange being here on the other side, so to speak," she continued, agreeing with both Jubilee and Bobby, "but I do like to think of this as us carrying on the X-Men legacy. Our little quartet here balance each other out quite nicely, in my opinion."
The four of them did remind Sierra of the original X-Men teachers that they had grown up under. Physically, Bobby was probably one of the strongest to emerge from their school days at the Institute. He had grown with his powers tremendously, allowing him to have been one of the first to graduate to join the X-Men when they had been teens. It was fitting that he should take Logan's room. His strength was similar.
Jubilee's bright spirit reminded Sierra of Ororo. Both unafraid of hard work and trouble, they celebrated being mutants and true to themselves, inspiring others to do the same. Of course, Jubilee's way of celebrating was a little louder than Ororo ever was, but Sierra was confident Jubilee would be able to connect with the new recruits just as Ororo was able to connect with them when they were students.
While Sierra was nowhere near Professor Xavier's caliber, like him Sierra's strongest asset was her mind. She was the most organized, able to help keep the institute running from the background. She was doing her best to remember that she was more than just her abilities when it came to their family, but she was well aware of her role.
She also firmly believed Kurt was one of the most logical of the original X-Men to help continue the team. Despite the world's reaction to his physical mutation, he retained his kind heart and good humor, much like Hank McCoy had. This world was to be shared by mutants and humans alike, and people like Kurt were leading the way.
Case in point was Kurt's response to them about them being back with him on that side of the X-Men. Sierra gave Kurt a small nod and smile at his words, understanding what went unspoken.
The conversation's topic shifted to the current new recruits, and Sierra laughed lightly at Bobby's words about having favorites.
"I'm certain our teachers, despite how much they loved all of us, had their favorites," Sierra said. "Jubilee was probably one of Logan's, if I remember correctly.
"All of the new recruits have been wonderful so far," she continued. "I hope the newest ones are fitting in just fine, but I think the others are doing their best to be welcoming."

Words: 228 Tags: Gigabyte, @jubilee, Iceman just to see Notes: Wrapping this up since it's been a while. Thanks guys!Bobby mentioned how it was strange to be in Logan's old room, and Kurt said, "While I'm glad you're comfortable and I do not want to tarnish Logan's memory in the slightest, I do hope you'll start thinking of it as your room rather than his, Bobby. You are the one who is here. That is now your space."
Kurt chuckled when talk turned to the new recruits, with Bobby admitting that he was trying not to have favorites. "We do have a good group so far," Kurt agreed. "I have faith that they will grow up well and I'm proud of the strides they have all been making so far.
"Yes, probably not the healthiest," Kurt said dryly, giving Sierra a crooked smile when she admitted that she used electricity in place of sleep at times. "Please remember that you are also human and should adhere to the human body's limitations."
He stood up and stretched, feeling the light buzz from his drink. "I agree that we four are a good group. I'm looking forward to continue working with all of you in this aspect," he said, giving the others a little bow. "On that note, I believe I need to go to bed. I may start confessing my love for all of you in increasingly ridiculous ways. Sincerely, I do thank you all for being here."
