The high school didn't seem too bad. Olivia hadn't stepped foot in a public school in quite some time. Of course, she hadn't been the most studious growing up, anyway, but she supposed she should make some sort of an effort in Bayville. She ran the risk of being sent back to her mother, who obviously didn't want her around, if she played hookey too many times. It wouldn't be the worst thing to be sent back to New York City, but Bayville was still new and enticing. Olivia figured she would stick around for a little longer, at least.
She was wandering the hallways on her own, finding it both eerie and calming that the majority of the school was empty. Todd was talking with the principal, enrolling both of the newer kids that were at the boarding house. There had been something missing on her own paperwork, so after filling that in, Olivia decided to explore. Todd didn't seem to care.
Olivia slowed down enough to peer at the options in a couple of vending machines. She didn't have money on her, but she probably could slip in with her abilities and dislodge a snack or two...
Vaguely, she wondered what the expiration date was on the food. Had any of the vending machines been refreshed since the end of the last school year?

Two years seemed to have flown by. It felt like only yesterday he had wandered these halls for those four long years, years that had had their ups and downs for various reasons. If it hadn't been family drama, it had been the typical high school worries; friends, classes, rivals, and what his future would be. And now here he was once again, walking the halls of his old high school of which he would now be working as a teacher's aid. In fact, the only reason Lance found himself wandering the halls and going down memory lane was to handle some paperwork of his own to finalize. His first stop had been to swing by the front office, bringing some items that needed to be scanned in and confirmed before everything seemed good to go. He thanked the woman working the front office, offering his usual crooked smile before grabbing his copies of everything and turned to leave the office faintly hearing talking in the office nearby. He had heard there was a new principle recently, a woman he had never heard of making him wonder how things would be compared to when he was there last. He would have properly introduced himself, but since it sounded like she was otherwise preoccupied he left the office instead and noted to himself to do introductions later. Done with his business for now, Lance began roaming the familiar halls, finding nothing had exactly changed since he was there last. But should he expect it? It had only been two years after all. Perhaps he felt small changes would have been made, but as he walked there was nothing quite standing out. Still, it was nice seeing a familiar place, and from what he could see a few teachers were already hard at work coming up with lesson plans, getting their classes prepped, and the like. Before long however, Lance soon came across someone that seemed far younger than any teachers. A student being enrolled perhaps? Curious, Lance approached the young woman who was looking over the vending machines, " I probably would make a choice carefully, no telling if they have touched these yet." He spoke up, " Least, they didn't use to change it until closer to when school was going to start. Usually anyway, don't know if that's changed." Lance mused. Tags: Mist

Olivia heard him coming, the young man not sneaking around the place at all. She raised a delicate eyebrow as he came close enough to give his opinion on the status of the snacks in the vending machine.
At least she didn't need to bother to shift and check herself.
"Disappointing," she said, glancing back at the vending machine. "The Nestle Crunch bar is calling my name. Who knows, though, perhaps all the preservatives in these snacks and candy would keep them fresh enough for the school's health standards.
"Especially since," Olivia looked back at the young man near her, admiring his muscular physique and red hair, "apparently some of the sports teams are here during the summer." He looked like he could be part of any of the sports teams, although if Olivia was pressed to pick one, she would have voted for football or basketball. "I'm just hazarding a guess as to why you're here in the hallways with me. You don't sound like a current student."
He could have been someone who recently graduated, as he didn't seem to be too much older than she was, who wasn't quite able to let go of his high school career yet.

" Be my guest, worse thing you could deal with is an upset stomach or explosive diarrhea later." Lance teased lightly with a soft chuckle. Though, Lance himself wondered if possibly the snacks might be fresh and edible for once. After all, if there was a new principle and new teachers, what other changes could be going on. Well, he would know in the coming year now that he was officially working there himself. Though a faint smile came to his face as Olivia took a wild guess of why he was there in the first place. He had to admire her observation skills. " Heh, I give you points for the guess, but that's a yes and no." He corrected, not seeming to mind giving an explanation. After all, he probably still looked like he could pass as a high school student. " Some of the sports teams start their training early, that you're not wrong on, but usually they stick to the gym, the fields, and locker rooms. If any of them are in the halls, its usually to handle some stuff for their schedules, exams, and registration like yourself." Lance then tapped the paperwork he held in his left hand, " And I'm here to finish some of my finalization for working here, teacher's aid while I go to the nearby university." The red head shifted his stance slightly, folding the paperwork to put away in one of the inner pockets of his worn leather jacket, " But, yes, I admit, I use to be a big jock I suppose. Was involved in a lot of the sports Bayville had to offer. I was a student once upon a time, graduated about two years ago now. Hell, I grew up here, just couldn't stay away from home for long." That sounded extremely cliche after those words had left his mouth. Even saying it out loud made him internally cringe, " Wow that sounded like the start of a cliche drama..." Shaking his head, Lance smiled once more, " Anyway, point is, just taking a trip down memory lane. Names Lance Bond." Lance introduced himself, offering a hand of greeting towards Olivia, " How about yourself? What's your story?" Though if anything could be noticed with physical contact, one would find that Lance's skin seemed extremely warm to the touch, like he had been standing outside for hours or being almost feverish. Olivia's nose wrinkled when the young man mentioned the worst she could get by eating some bad chocolate.
Boys.
He mentioned that her guess was both correct and incorrect, and her second eyebrow briefly joined her first as he explained what he was also doing in the school's hallways. He mentioned the sports teams that usually got a head-start in their practices and training -- and she should probably put a bug in Adam's ear about that if he really wanted to try out for the football team -- and how he himself was finishing up his teacher's aid application while also going to university.
"That sounds like so much school," Olivia said, giving him a crooked smile. "To each their own, I suppose."
Ah, so he was a fairly recent graduate. "Guess that means something about Bayville High's academics and school spirit if previous students return to skip down Memory Lane. It is cliche, but I won't fault you for it.
"Olivia Nolen." She introduced herself, noting his hand strength and absurdly warm skin. Maybe he just came inside the building to escape the summer heat?
Regardless, Lance Bond -- and he totally missed an opportunity to introduce himself like a certain, fictional agent -- asked about her, so Olivia would oblige. "Transfer from New York City," she said. "Had to fill out a little bit more of the damn paperwork then figured I would explore. Want to be my tour guide?"

Lance chuckled softly at her words, " Yes, too much school, but a necessary evil." Thinking about it now, it probably would have made more sense for him to have gone to the local university to begin with. But, he had his reasons for leaving a couple years ago, those same reasons he was trying to make it on his own now. " But I promise, it goes by fast." " Bayville is a decent school, I wouldn't say its something overly special." In his experience it had been a typical high school. After everything that had happened fifteen years prior, nothing major had really happened since then unless it was your usual high school gossip, drama, or the usual events and scandals. Even then, the scandals were really nothing to look into. " You have your easy-going teachers, your hard-ass teachers, overachievers, underachievers, outcasts, cliches, you name it most likely the school has it. Boring, unfortunately." Although, with new students arriving to the school based on what Olivia told him, that could very easily change. " But, I'm mostly here for a few reasons myself, academic and personal." Not that she likely would be interested in all that anyway. " Still, pleasure to meet you Olivia, I hope Bayville treats you well." Lance told her with a smile before putting his hands in his pockets. Chuckling once more at her remark towards the paperwork, he could only nod, " Sure, why not. Not like I'm a big rush anyway, so come on." He nodded down towards the locker lined halls to begin their tour. Tags: Mist

Lance chuckled when Olivia said it sounded like too much school, but he didn't seem offended at the comment. Olivia herself never really entertained the idea of continuing her education -- hell, she never entertained the idea of finishing high school, but there she was.
It was rather refreshing that Lance wasn't sugarcoating anything about Bayville High or showed too much enthusiasm for his old high school. Olivia would probably feel more suspicious if he did. "Perhaps the hallways will liven up this year," Olivia said. "I haven't been in a public school in quite some time, so I'm hoping it won't be quite as boring as you say."
Because, honestly, if it was boring, then Olivia wasn't sure if she would be able to stomach going to the high school day after day.
With their introductions finished, Lance mentioned that he was there for both academic and personal reasons, and agreed to play the role of tour guide. Olivia had no problem following him further down the hallways.
"You said you're returning as a teacher's aid," Olivia said. "What kind of classes? Any and all, or is there a specialty that maybe you're working towards to go with whatever degree you're earning in university?"
She may as well get some of her curiosity sated. Besides, if Lance was an aid for some of her classes, maybe she would have a simpler time getting through them. Perhaps he'll be trusted with test answers or something that she may be able to steal or persuade him to share...
"Since you graduated only two years ago," Olivia said, "are there any certain classes or teachers you would advise me to avoid?"

" Well, if there are as many new students as I've been hearing about, something tells me there might be plenty of excitement coming this year." Lance had been hearing lately that Bayville had been getting an influx of new individuals around lately. Though the town was pretty big, it certainly was no New York City so word could travel fast. From what he was beginning to understand, Bayville seemed to be going through a bit of a period of growth for the first time in a while, so perhaps this would prove to be an interesting time to return home. Only time would tell though. Lance began their tour by pointing out which hall was designated for which grade, at least in terms of lockers as well as which classroom was which. Whether their organization had changed was another thing, but he highly doubted it had changed in the short time he had been gone. After pointing out things down the Junior class hall, it was then Olivia asked about his job and current academics. " Hm, I'd say wherever they need me really, but it will mostly be data type classes, computers, math, that sort of thing I'm sure. Right now, I'm going to university for Research and Data Analysis, so I'm not necessarily being picky." Lance answered her, giving a sheepish grin. " Sounds pretty boring I'm sure, but I'm glad to help where I can for others so maybe I'll see you in a few." Though, Lance did wonder if he shouldn't eventually consider getting a secondary job or internship for his central focuses rather than just at his high school. " Hm, teachers hard to say. Seems just as there are new students coming in, new teachers are popping up here too. Some of the ones I had retired or left, so its a guessing game." Lance admitted as they arrived towards the cafeteria. " Though I definitely recommend avoiding the Shakespearean, science, and math classes, they were...tedious and boring." He paused then, gesturing to the double doors, " Here you'll find the cafeteria, plenty of notice boards, vending machines, and even its own salad bar, we did use to have some payphones, but they got removed when they died out sometime before I arrived here. And across the way you'll find one of the entrances to our library." Tags: Mist

"I am offended at that insinuation, Mr. Bond."
Carrying a box of microscopes and heading down the hallway in the same direction as the two taking a tour, Mr. Knott cast a grin over at Lance. "I would like to think you didn't mind my science classes when you were a student here."
With a nod to Olivia, Mr. Knott said, "Don't listen to the lies he is spouting about the science and math classes. They pave the way for the future! Besides, I do believe Mr. Bond here is taking that route. You're doing something with computers and numbers, are you not, Mr. Bond? Or did you decide to lean into your athletics for your future?
"As an introduction," he said, giving Olivia a small nod, "I am Mr. Knott. My specialties are, of course, the sciences. I'm mainly a chemistry and biology teacher in this place, but I am also the robotics club coordinator." Gesturing to the box in his hands, he said, "You know, if the equipment I am carrying didn't give that away." ( Mist @lancebond)

Olivia smiled at Lance's words about how he had heard there would be many new students that year, and she was hoping that she herself would be one to liven things up around the high school.
She supposed it would be a matter of how long it would take her to get bored.
Lance was a decent tour guide, pointing out the likely hallways that Olivia would have her locker in, and she gazed around, trying to map out the place. It wasn't truly a central location, but it would do at the beginning. If down the line she needed a locker in another part of the school, she was certain she could convince a new "friend" to let her borrow their space.
Lance mentioned the types of classes he would most likely be an aid in because of what he was going to university for, then suggested that she avoid some of those very same types of classes. She was rather amused at that, quirking an eyebrow, but before she could question him, someone else joined them.
Olivia glanced at Lance when the science teacher appeared, calling Lance out for his words in a jovial tone, and Olivia figured Mr. Knott couldn't be too bad. "Yes, I was just about to ask Lance about that," Olivia said. "He says to avoid math classes but is going for data analysis. Unless there's a specific focus your research and data analysis is for?" she added to Lance.
"I'm Olivia Nolen," she said, introducing herself to Mr. Knott as well. "I'm actually taking forensics, so not sure if I'll have you at all this year for a class."

Well, Lance should have expected at least one familiar teacher to be roaming around. With the school year quickly approaching, he would guess some of them are getting everything ready before the start of the year would roll around. " Good to see you again too Mr.Knott." Lance greeted with amusement, offering a grin when his former teacher continued to poke fun at his words. Of course, Mr. Knott had a point. " To be fair, I never said you were a boring teacher sir, just the classes were. But, I think that's pretty typical of high school isn't it." He added in his own jovial tone. Or perhaps college had proven to just be more interesting after he left. Though he couldn't help giving a goofy grin as both Knott and Olivia inquired about the track he was following, " Trust me, I'm still going for the tracks, but doesn't mean I never found high school classes boring from time to time. Suppose take my words with a grain of salt Olivia, I'll let you decide." Though when Olivia also inquired if he had a specific focus, he gave a small shrug, " I have a few ideas in mind, but I haven't figured it out exactly. Still early yet where I'll put my focus on." Although, Lance actually did have an idea of what he wanted to do, he kept that most to himself for various reasons, largely though to avoid further problems as he had faced in the past. Mutants were very much an interest to him especially after meeting his childhood friend, wanting to know more and understand them. Maybe a part of him even hoping it might lead him to that long lost friend... But, if they both really got that curious maybe he would talk about it in the coming future. As the two introduced themselves, Lance curiously glanced at the box noticing the number of microscopes within, " Hey Mr.Knott, do you need a hand with those by the way?" He inquired, " Or do you have some other boxes you need help moving?" Tags: Mist, Nightcrawler:knott

"You wound me, Mr. Bond," Mr. Knott said, "with your words. If a class is boring, then the teacher is at fault. Remember that for whatever classes you aid," he added with a wink.
"Joking aside, I do understand what you mean," the teacher continued, directing his words to both Olivia and Lance. "I fully blame the curriculum the state has us do for the more boring aspects of the classes we must teach. If I had my way, I would dedicate my classes to the sciences I'm really passionate about, like the nitty-gritty of biology and evolution. Passion is exciting! Find your passion, my young friends, and you'll never be bored."
To Olivia, he nodded, and said, "It's a pleasure to meet you. Forensics is a wonderful class. I'm certain you'll enjoy it."
Regarding the boxes, Mr. Knott said, "I think I'm fine, thank you. Besides, you're escorting this young lady around, and I'm only switching to a new classroom down the hall. The new principal believes I will have more room for my chemistry sets in the new classroom." In a stage whisper, he added, "That, and the new classroom has an extra fire extinguisher. I'm choosing to believe that is a coincidence rather than her finding out about that small fire incident from last year." ( Mist, @lancebond)

Olivia couldn't help but try not to laugh at the banter between Lance and Mr. Knott. It seemed to be good news that there was at least one teacher down-to-earth enough to connect with students like this. At the very least, Mr. Knott didn't seem too stuffy at all, and Olivia honestly thought that if she got bored or annoyed at her forensics class, she'd drop down to chemistry.
The teacher himself spoke about passion, so that was another good sign in Olivia's book. The previous schools she had gone to employed teachers who only seemed to care about catering to the curriculum.
Lance mentioned that he had only narrowed down what focus he wanted to follow for his studies rather than giving away any clues. "I hope you get a chance to figure it out soon," Olivia said, "and that you'll be happy with it. You say you have plenty of time, but I'm sure the time to choose will come quickly."
Lance was a gentleman and offered to help Mr. Knott with his boxes, but the teacher declined, citing that he was merely moving to a new classroom. Olivia's eyebrows raised when he mentioned a small fire, and she laughed incredulously. "You started a fire in your classroom last year?"
Maybe Bayville High would be exciting after all.
