Date: Thursday, June 15, 2023 Tags: FoxtrotWords: 199 Notes: Foxtrot's first thread! Yay! Considering Roy was the first student of the Xavier Institute, he supposed it made sense that he would give the new kid the tour. With the few interactions Roy has had with Willow, the girl would probably talk the new guy's ear off before he stepped in through the front door. Of course, the new guy could be just as talkative as Willow, and wouldn't that be great? Two extroverts with introverted Roy right in the middle--
Roy shook his head, trying to clear it while waiting on the front stoop of the manor for the new kid to show up. Eddie, Sierra said his name was, about the same age as Roy. Sierra actually asked if Roy would mind being roommates with Eddie. Considering how many kids were usually stuffed in a room at the orphanage together, Roy figured it wouldn't be bad. Besides, there was still plenty of room in the manor should Roy and Eddie not work out being roommates.
Roy dried his palms on his pants, conscious of water beginning to drip from his fingertips. There was no need to be nervous, Roy was sure, but he still wasn't that great with meeting new people.

i'm a moon-walker i'm like mj up in the clouds dancing's not a crime -- panic! at the disco words: 232 notes: yay! "You sure this is the right place?" Eddie asked the Uber driver, dumbfounded that the car was turning into one of longest driveways Eddie had ever seen. The manor on the horizon looked as if it could swallow Eddie's little hometown and still have room for dessert.
"This is the address you gave me," the driver said casually. "Fancy digs, eh? Do you think this is the wrong place?"
The driver, an older gentleman probably with grown kids that have long since moved out of the house and working with Uber as something to do in his spare time, glanced at Eddie in the rear view mirror. Eddie was sure if he asked, the driver would have enough parental instincts to bring Eddie back to the airport if Eddie didn't feel safe being dropped off at an estate.
Yet, Eddie spotted another teen probably about his age waiting on the front stoop, and guessed that this was the right place. "No, I'm sure this is it," Eddie said to the driver. "Just... didn't expect it to be so fancy, heh. Thanks for the ride."
"If you're sure," the driver said. "Have a good day!"
Eddie replied in kind and took out his suitcases from the car. The driver waited until Eddie reached the stoop and stuck out a hand to the other teen. "Hi. I'm Eddie Ross. This the, uh, Xavier Institute?"

Tags: FoxtrotWords: 212 Roy spotted the taxi coming down the long driveway and stood up straighter. He waited until the taxi came to a stop and another teen, looking a bit bewildered, stepped out with a couple of suitcases. Roy took the offered hand and nodded.
"Roy Kingsley," Roy said, introducing himself just as Eddie had. "This is the place. Welcome to Mutant Manor."
Roy offered to take one of Eddie's suitcases, figuring it was polite, and gestured for Eddie to follow him through the front door. "This place is a little big," Roy said, "but you'll get used to it quickly enough. There's only a handful of us here, but the teachers are always on the look-out for more of us mutant teens. Aside from us, there's Willow, who honestly just joined last week."
He tried not to fidget and paused in the foyer. "I figured I'd show you to our room first. We're actually roommates, unless you don't want to be. There's plenty of other rooms in the wings of the dormitories if you'd rather be on your own until this place gets too full.
"Do you have any questions?" Roy asked. "Don't think I'm not that great at this tour guide stuff, so if there's something you want to know, just ask."

you're a sweet talker but darlin' whatcha gonna say now? dancing's not a crime -- panic! at the disco words: 193 notes: nada "Roy." Eddie nodded, giving the other teen a friendly, crooked smile. "Good to meet you. Thanks for the welcome."
Eddie turned and gave the taxi driver a wave, one last thank you and to let the driver know that he was good.
Roy was nice enough to pick up one of Eddie's suitcases, even if Eddie couldn't quite discern the other teen's tone. by the sounds of it, Roy wasn't the type to volunteer to play the role of tour guide but he was trying. Rather, it sounded like Roy wasn't quite sure what he was supposed to do but was going along with what he had.
"Only three of us?" Eddie asked, surprised. "Well, sounds like we'll be the veterans of the place by the time school starts up, right?
"I'm good with having a roommate," Eddie said, finding it delightful, actually. He came from a tight-knit community, so Eddie figured having a roommate meant that he would have a ready friend.
With that said, he followed Roy up the large stairs and openly gawked at everything around him. "Uh, no questions yet? I probably will have plenty during the tour, though."

Tags: FoxtrotWords: 277 Roy nodded when the pair shook hands and when Eddie mentioned that the three of them would be considered the veterans of the institute. Roy paused at the thought and briefly wondered how many more students Kurt and Sierra were planning on taking on before the fall. He didn't know how he would feel if the place got more crowded...
Eddie at the very least seemed friendly and would probably be an easy-going roommate. Roy hoped the pair would be able to get along well enough.
"Well, okay," Roy said, which wasn't lame at all, when Eddie mentioned that he didn't have any questions at the moment. With a jerk of his head, Roy started going up the stairs to the foyer.
"Alright, so, the girls dormitory is down in that wing," Roy said, pointing over to the right while heading down to the left. "Boys dormitory is down here. Our, uh, dormitory bathroom is right here"--Roy gestured to the bathroom that was in the middle of the bedrooms in the hallway--"in case... you need it..."
Roy was a fantastic tour guide. Not.
"Here's our room." Leading Eddie down to the last room in the hallway, Roy opened the door and heaved the suitcase he was carrying onto the unoccupied -- or, rather, Eddie's -- bed. Roy stepped back, allowing Eddie to take a look around the simple room. There wasn't much, aside from the two twin beds, a couple of dresser drawers, and a closet that the pair would share. There was a large window behind both beds with a nightstand beneath the window and plenty of space for Eddie and Roy to personalize the place.

you can't take me anywhere, anywhere you can't take me anywhere, anywhere dancing's not a crime -- panic! at the disco words: 217 notes: nada Eddie followed Roy dutifully up the stairs, nodding when Roy pointed out the girls' dormitory, and doing his best to suppress his crooked smile when Roy pointed out the bathroom. It was obvious that Roy wasn't used to playing the role of tour guide, but it was endearing. Eddie didn't want to point it out, though, lest he made Roy even more self-conscious. Or, even worse, Eddie sounds like a jerk.
The pair soon made it to their room and Eddie paused in the threshold to look around. It was a little sparse, but he was impressed with the size of it. "Pretty sure this is twice the size of my room back home," Eddie said, following Roy's actions and putting his suitcase on his bed. "We can decorate this however we want, right? How long have you been here, again?"
It was a rather empty room, all things considered. Maybe Roy was a lot newer than Eddie had first thought, even with his veteran status and all.
Eddie took a look out the window, impressed with the rolling grounds. It was a little difficult to even see the heart of the city from the manor's property.
"Hey, I'll unpack a little later," Eddie said, turning to Roy with a grin. "I'm game to continue the tour."

Tags: Foxtrot (edit because apparently I totally tagged Hydro in this, lol) Words: 252 Roy gave Eddie a small smile as Eddie marveled at the size of the room. It had seemed a lot bigger than his room back at the orphanage when Roy had first arrived, too, but it was probably around the same size. Back at the orphanage, Roy had more than one roommate so the room had appeared smaller.
"Uh, yeah," Roy said when Eddie asked about decorating. "The teachers of the place haven't forbidden it, or anything, I mean. As long as we don't knock down a wall, we should be good.
"A couple of months," he replied to the next question. Rubbing the back of his head, Roy added, "Didn't really have much stuff to bring with me." Which probably sounded strange. "I came from an orphanage in Ohio, so didn't have many personal things. Kurt and Sierra were cool, though. Took me shopping for more clothes and stuff, and offered more, but... It felt weird to accept more, you know?"
And that was enough of Roy's life story. He cleared his throat and wasn't sure if he was relieved or not that Eddie opted to continue the tour.
"Sure." Roy gestured for Eddie to follow -- not that the other teen had much of a choice -- and Roy wandered back out of the dormitories. He pointed out where the teachers' rooms were, in case Eddie needed that information, then led Eddie back down the stairs.
"Okay, so we have the main living and rec room down over here to the left..."

i'm still uninvited i'm still gonna light it dancing's not a crime -- panic! at the disco words: 297 notes: nada "Aw, damn." Eddie snapped his fingers, feigning disappointment with his crooked grin. "I was hoping we could get rid of that eastern wall to fit in a hot tub."
Roy revealed not only he had been at the institute for only a couple of months, but he didn't come from a close family environment like Eddie had. Eddie tried not to show too much sympathy; he didn't know Roy's specific situation. For all Eddie knew, Roy could have fond memories of the orphanage. Eddie nodded when Roy mentioned it would have been weird to accept more than his fair share of belongings from the institute, unsure if Eddie himself would have splurged just a little considering how much dough the place. Still, Roy sounded humble, had already proven to be a little quiet, maybe shy...
That's it. Eddie was officially adopting Roy as his friend.
Not that Eddie thought the two wouldn't have been friends, of course, but now Eddie was going to be much more conscious of his efforts to befriend Roy.
Eddie followed Roy as the other continued the tour and Eddie tried to store everything Roy said to memory.
"Holy..." Eddie blinked at the size of the living and rec room, marveling at the television on one wall opposite of a large, sectional sofa and another wall just being covered with windows. The windowed wall had cushioned seats, a couple of bookshelves standing on either side of the curtains, and a pool table was situated not too far away.
If this was the size of just the "main" living room, Eddie wasn't sure what he'll think of the rest of the place.
"Be honest with me," Eddie said, glancing at Roy, "how many times did you get lost around here before memorizing the layout?"

Tags: FoxtrotWords: 280 Roy's eyebrows raised as Eddie joked about having an indoor hot tub. His eyebrows lowered as a crooked smile touched his face.
"There's a jacuzzi outside next to the pool," Roy said casually. Shrugging, he added, "Not the same thing, but may be close enough for you."
Vaguely, Roy wondered if the Danger Room could program in a hot tub or something. There was a low-level gym setting that the students could access on their own -- once they were used to the rest of the place and started using the Danger Room with one of the teachers regularly -- that was able to make an indoor pool. A hot tub wouldn't be that big of a stretch, would it?
Roy pinned the thought for later. He'd let Kurt or Sierra introduce Eddie to the Danger Room first.
Eddie followed Roy just fine, and didn't ask too many questions as Roy led him through some of the hallways and pointing out a couple of the more mundane rooms. He did seem suitably impressed with the main living room, and Roy waited, unsure as to how long Eddie would want to gawk at it.
Roy was a little surprised at Eddie's question and said, "Maybe twice? I wasn't lost long. It's not as big as it seems, to be honest. Most of the corridors either lead to dead ends, outside, or right back to the foyer with the grand staircase.
"I may have the advantage of coming from a big orphanage, though," he continued. "The place wasn't a mansion, of course, but there were quite a few of us there... What about you? Come from a big place, if you're willing to share?"

i'm going insane and i don't care dancing's not a crime -- panic! at the disco words: 218 notes: lol at the tagging mishap! A grin bloomed on Eddie's face as Roy mentioned a couple of the ground's features. "You've a pool?" Eddie asked. "For real? Do you swim?"
Eddie's grandparents had never had the inkling to get a pool, no matter how often Eddie asked and said he would take care of it (which, in hindsight, was probably a good thing considering Eddie ended up in Bayville). To think that the manor had a pool that Eddie could presumably use whenever he wanted (and a bonus jacuzzi!) just made the place seem all the better.
Roy admitted that he had gotten lost a couple of times, making Eddie chuckle, but Roy assured Eddie that getting lost wasn't that big of a deal. He then revealed a couple of more details about where he came from then turned the question around on Eddie.
"Lived with my grandparents in Cloudcroft, New Mexico," Eddie said. "It's probably one of the smallest towns in the state. Maybe the country, for all I know. So, uh, coming to this place," he gestured around, indicating the manor as a whole, "is kind of a sticker-shock. I'm looking forward to being here, definitely, but... This is far out of my element, heh.
"But I'll get used to it all," he said, casting Roy a smile. "Where to next?"

Tags: FoxtrotWords: 329 Roy almost laughed out loud at Eddie questioning if he swam before Roy realized that, while the pair introduced themselves to each other, the common thread that brought them both to the Xavier Institute had yet to be spoken about.
"Uh, yeah," Roy said, unable to help the few chuckles under his breath. "I swim. That's, well, that's kind of what I do. Why I'm a mutant. Sierra and Kurt call it hydrokinetic. I control water, can breathe under water... Kind of turn into water, usually not on purpose..."
He paused before asking. "What about you? What brings you to mutant manor?"
Eddie told Roy a bit of his own history, and Roy had honestly never heard of Cloudcroft. It sounded like a made-up name, like a town from a fantasy video game or something. He had no reason to doubt Eddie, of course, and nodded along.
"This place does take some getting used to, yeah," Roy agreed, gesturing for Eddie to continue following him to keep the tour going. "It won't be so bad, though. We keep heading down this way and we'll reach the dining room and kitchen..."
And Roy wasn't sure if it as a good or a bad thing that they went towards the kitchen next, for it smelled like something was about to start burning. Roy steeled himself and went into the kitchen, hoping that no one had accidentally left the stove on or something.
Instead, he was greeted with an enthusiastic, "Hi, Roy! Want some toast?"
Willow was right by the toaster, apparently waiting for her toast to be as black as possible before a fire started. Before Roy could say anything, Willow spotted Eddie behind Roy and waved.
"And hi to you! I can make toast for you, too, if you want some?"
Roy took a deep breath and, with a crooked smile, said, "Eddie, this is Willow Foster. Will, this is Eddie Ross. He got here, like, a half hour ago."

dancing, dancing, dancing's not a crime dancing's not a crime -- panic! at the disco words: 288 notes: nada Eddie was momentarily confused when Roy chuckled at his question about swimming. Once Roy explained what his mutant abilities were, a smile of understanding crossed Eddie's face.
"That's pretty cool, actually," Eddie said. Daring to reach over and ruffle Roy's hair, he asked, "That why your mop is blue?
"As for me, I do stuff with sound waves," he continued. "Like, I hear sounds, usually music, and I can make the sound waves do what I want, if I'm concentrating enough. I figured it out when I got into a fight at a school dance last year, heh. The fight wasn't on purpose... sort of... but I accidentally had the sound waves from the music help amplify my shove to a classmate.
"I'm not a troublemaker, I swear," Eddie added in a rush, realizing belatedly that he probably should not be sharing such details with his new roommate and the veteran student of the institute, to boot. He had no idea if Roy would be the type to keep an eye on everyone and report any misdeeds back to the headmasters of the place. "The guy was bothering someone else and kind of had it coming."
He cleared his throat, clamping up for the moment, and he continued to follow Roy throughout the manor. His delight at the dining room and kitchen being next on the tour was dampened due to smelling something that was on the verge of burning.
Color him surprised when they entered the kitchen and Eddie was greeted enthusiastically while being offered toast.
Eddie returned Willow's grin and stuck out a hand for a shake. "Thanks, Willow, but I'm good right now. How are you? Heard you just arrived not too long ago, too."

Tags: FoxtrotWords: 225 Roy paused when Eddie reached over to ruffle his hair. It was a little strange, but it wasn't completely uncomfortable. Roy instead focused on Eddie's question, resuming the tour as he answered.
"It's a side effect," Roy said with a small, quirked smile. "At least Sierra says it won't be a bother at the high school. Odd colored hair isn't against the dress code."
Roy listened, eyebrows raising as he grew impressed with Eddie's description of his own abilities. Roy chuckled when Eddie tried to mention that he wasn't a troublemaker, and Roy nodded.
"I get it," he said simply. "Glad you were able to help whoever the guy was bothering. I probably would have done something like that, too."
With the introduction of Willow, Roy watched as the pair greeted each other, Willow returning Eddie's grin with her own wide one.
"I've only been here for a week," Willow said, finally freeing the blackened toast from the toaster. She slathered some raspberry jelly on the two pieces. "It's a great place, though! If you happen to see a random dog or cat running about the place, it's probably me. I shapeshift into animals."
"She was also an ostrich last week," Roy deadpanned.
"I heard they were the fastest running bird! I wanted to see what it was like! I didn't mean to scare you."

unless you do it without me unless you do it without me dancing's not a crime -- panic! at the disco words: 244 notes: maybe a nice ending? I'm game with the rest of the tour happening in the background. Thank you! Eddie took note of Roy's pause but was relieved that Roy didn't seem to mind, nor did he protest about, Eddie ruffling his hair. Eddie was also rather delighted that Roy's hair color was a side effect of his mutation. The fact that Roy's DNA decided, yes, blue is the color of water and shall be the color of his hair, was amusing.
The fact that Roy seemed to take Eddie defending another in stride was great, too. Eddie did not want to start off on a bad note at the institute, especially with his roommate.
Eddie burst out laughing when Willow described her abilities and Roy shot back that she was an ostrich, of all things, last week.
"Alright, so what I'm taking away from this," Eddie said, "is not to panic if I happen to look out my bedroom window and see an elephant hanging around the gardens.
"I'm able to control sound waves," he said, "but that kind of sounds unimpressive compared to what you can do. Both of you." He included Roy in his compliment to Willow, finding their abilities amazing. He couldn't wait to see them in action.
"Just a week?" Eddie asked Willow. "Did you get the tour from Roy too? Why not join us now, if both you and Roy are cool with it? I wouldn't mind getting another's perspective on this place."
It'd give him a chance to get to know both of his new housemates.

Tags: FoxtrotWords: 177 Notes: That's a wrap! Roy gave a crooked smile when Eddie laughed out loud at the ostrich story, the new teen already seemingly fitting in.
Willow appeared to enjoy Eddie's company too, grinning over at Roy when Eddie started laughing at their banter. She hummed thoughtfully when Eddie mentioned an elephant. "I don't think I've tried that before..."
"Please don't," Roy said dryly. "Can you imagine Kurt or Sierra if you crushed the garden?"
Willow giggled and lit up even further when Eddie invited her to join them for the rest of the tour. Roy was completely fine with that. He had gotten mostly used to Willow's ramblings since she joined and it would be great for the three of them to hang out together.
Yeah. Roy could get used to this.
"Alright, let's keep going then. Will, think we should tell him about the Danger Room next?"
"Oh, absolutely! Eddie, you'll love it, the Danger Room is a place where we train with our powers and it's all sorts of high-tech with holograms and lasers...!"
Roy chuckled under his breath.
