Description:
Jubilee is a young woman standing at an average height of five feet and five inches, and is of Chinese descent. She has a petite but lean build due to years of gymnastics and self-taught hand-to-hand combat skills with fair skin, black hair, and dark brown eyes. Jubilee is also one to favor having her hair short, but will occasionally let it grow out enough to put into a loose bun or ponytail. Attire wise, she much prefers sleeveless shirts, short sleeve shirts, and tank tops with jeans, whether shorts or pants. She also often can be seen wearing a distinct yellow jacket and pink visor glasses regardless of what she is wearing. However, during training sessions or missions she will wear her X-men uniform.
Personality:
Not only does Jubilee’s name live up to her powers, but so too does she live up to her personality. Jubilee is an incredibly energetic and jovial young woman, almost to the point of being hyper. She is known not only for her bright, out-going personality but for her exceptionally positive attitude and free spirited ways. Despite all the loss and set backs in her life, she remains a positive soul, always being goofy and surprisingly calm in a way she manages to not let stress get to her even in the most dire of situations. If anything, she is quite humorous and light-hearted.
In fact, in time she has mellowed out somewhat from her overly rebellious stage to some extent. But one should not write off the fact she hasn’t entirely lost her youthful vigor. She is still very much reckless and a risk taker, sometimes jumping into situations head first with half a plan in mind. Though optimistic, she can be hard-headed and stubborn, if even very competitive when the situation calls for it. But, Jubilee is still unorthodox and clever, showing a long time adaptability and open-mind since she was young.
But, Jubilee does have her moments of becoming angered and can hold a grudge at times depending on the situation. She is compassionate but protective, not taking kindly to those who insult and threaten her loved ones. She has even been known to act without thinking rationally and going too far with her powers.
Powers:
Jubilee’s codename says it all for her powers. She controls energy plasmoids, or lumikinetic explosive light blasts for the more scientifically inclined, of which she simply calls her “fireworks”. More specifically, Jubilee can control globules of light energy generated from her hands that start out resembling white sparklers. Once cast from her hands and fingers, they take on all sorts of colors from the typical rainbow colors and beyond, usually resembling spheres but can also become various other shapes, such as streamers, squares, triangles, diamonds, and more that follow her mental commands. These globules can vary in power and intensity; at their weakest they can become disorienting multicolored lights to cause temporary blindness to explosions that can tear through trees and most metals at a sub-atomic levels. At their strongest, Jubilee can easily blow apart a plane or vehicle on her own, and has the capacity to reabsorb these gobules back into her body.
In fact, Jubilee’s control over this ability has extended to more than just projectile/range use. She has learned to shape this usually explosive light energy into physical constructs centered at her hands, usually taking the shape of claws in honor of her favorite instructor when she was younger, Wolverine and discs, spheres, and blades. Aside from physical damage, these constructs are capable of causing minor explosive damage to knock someone off their feet and leave first-degree burns. With some concentration, Jubilee has learned to extend the use of these pyrokinetic abilities to her feet, allowing her increase her kick power as well as "skate" on the energy with miniature jet propulsions.
Lastly, Jubilee has a natural psionic shielding around her mind. When telepaths try to locate or touch her mind, it appears full of static or “slippery” unless one is looking for a specific thought or her specifically. The origin of this shielding is unknown, but it is suspected may be an extension of her powers.
Weaknesses:
The most obvious weakness for Jubilee is that her powers are generally concentrated to her hands. She cannot manifest them on any other part of her body other than from her hands and fingers, and with some concentration to her feet, thus her range of direction is often limited to where she can see and move her hands, feet or random. Jubilee must also always be aware of the potency of her ability as she can easily get herself and/or others caught in the crossfire, and her sun glasses aren't a fashion choice either as she can still be blinded by her own ability and wears them to avoid this.
Jubilee also lacks control over her natural occurring psionic shields, having no way to turn them off on her own nor knows their origin.
Personality wise though Jubilee has mellowed out compared to her younger years, she is still very much a reckless young woman. She has a horrible tendency to leap before she thinks and seems a magnet for trouble since she can remember, and as a result she may get in over her head at times. She also has a bad habit of holding a grudge at times and will not hesitate to make her thoughts known.
Skills/Hobbies:
Even after all these years, Jubilee is still heavily involved in gymnastics, having once qualified for Olympic level competition. She also greatly loves in-line skating and self-taught hand-to-hand combat long after she left the institute. Jubilee also is adept in thievery and lockpicking, something she doesn’t always advertise.
History:
Jubilee’s life was once a normal one. Her parents were Chinese immigrants who came to the United States seeking better opportunities, eventually settling in Beverly Hills, California. In time, the family carved out a decent life by the time Jubilee was five, her parents earning their official citizenship status and living comfortably.
Her whole life seemed like your typical human life. Jubilee grew up with good friends, was enrolled into gymnastics, and became interested in in-line skating and was a regular at her local mall. But, fate had other plans by the time she was a teenager. It all started when her family was murdered by hitmen due to a case of mistaken identity of another family of Lees. Away at the time of hanging out with friends, she came home to discover the grisly scene and called for help.
Unfortunately, Jubilation would find she was to be sent to foster care while they searched for the hitmen. Instead, she took to the streets out of refusal, dropping out of school and resorting to thievery and trickery to survive. Living out of the mall for a year and a half, her powers manifested one day when mall security finally caught the mall rat stealing food and chased her down, the stress causing her to trigger her powers for the first time to escape. And for part of that year she used her fireworks to entertain mall goers to earn extra money.
However, she was eventually found and approached by the Xavier Institute who offered her a stable life once more. Overjoyed, she gladly agreed and moved to Bayville where she became part of the New Mutants sub-unit. Easily adapting back into the social life as a teenager, Jubilee was close to all her teammates, especially Bobby Drake whom she had a crush on and even stole the Blackbird for a joyride once. She loves retelling that story!
But during her time at the institute, Jubilee kept a close eye on the case for her parents in between everything else. Through the constant back and forth with the Beverly Hills police, she eventually learned from a detective she had a distant relative by the name of Hope. Just before mutants were exposed to the world, she contacted and kept in touch with her aunt who kept her door open in Los Angeles. Eventually, Jubilee would find herself moving there when mutants were made known to the world and her aunt thought it best she come to LA where she might be safer. So, she did.
In the fifteen years since, Jubilee lived a semi-normal life. She continued school and volunteered at the local gymnastics center while her aunt was busy with her own business. Though she never knew what she did, the young mutant was otherwise happy, building a life for herself there, graduating high school and going on to work as a gymnastics instructor despite her eligibility to go for the Olympics. She also spent those years developing her powers on the outskirts of LA or abandoned places where she had less chances to be discovered, eventually discovering she could shape the light energy she could generate.
These last nine years, Jubilee would find herself balancing a social life, her teaching job, and becoming a solo hero, fighting crime for human and mutant kind to live by the message Xavier preached. But, she would eventually get word of the institute opening back up after all this time in Bayville, sending an application in to work at Bayville High while planning to drop in by surprise to see old faces.
First Appearance Scene: Same as with Lance, maybe something more of re-introductory thread or jumping into an existing one!
