Description: Willow often gets mistaken as quite a few years younger. She doesn't seem to mind, taking the assumptions as compliments (most women enjoy being told they look younger, right?). Willow is of small stature, reaching only about five feet, with little muscle and fat evident on her body. Due to her mutation, she has a high metabolism which helps keep her body lean. Willow usually has a tanned complexion, not too dark, just a healthy glow from being outside as often as she can. The sun also granted her long hair some natural highlights, giving her some golden strands to mix in with the brown hue. Her eyes are green, inherited from her mother, and are generally bright to go with her almost always present smiles.
Personality: Willow is the epitome of optimism. To her, not only is the glass half-full, there's a plate of cookies right beside it. She always appears to be happy and does her best to keep the atmosphere in a room light and free of tension. Free-spirited and confident, Willow is always up for a new adventure. She's curious about everything (and everyone, for that matter) and will eagerly go along with plans as long as danger isn't too apparent. She's very friendly and loves to talk to people, being interested in their lives and the world around them. With that, Willow is fairly smart, both street-wise and school-book style. Her curiosity helps her absorb knowledge, despite many of it seeming like useless facts. Willow is also extremely loyal to her friends, sometimes to the point where she could be described as a mother bear. This is not something that she picked up from her family, and is instead credited to her mutation. Having a connection with animals, Willow no doubt feels the same loyalty that many species of animals have to their packs, herds, or flocks. With this trait, Willow can seem clingy; she never wants to lose her friends. She's also a bit spoiled, having been the youngest of four children, and was used to getting her way. She doesn't expect the world to revolve around her, no, but she can be stubborn when something doesn't go her way. Considering that Willow is a fairly extroverted individual, she has a touch of autophobia, or the fear of being alone. She thrives on social contact and, if she cannot get it from people, she will go and find some sort of animal to hang out and talk with, be it a dog, bird, or squirrel. Her autophobia is one reason why she loves to meet new people. On that note, she can be naive about people who may not have her best interests in mind.
Powers: Willow's mutation has to do with animals. She is a shapeshifter, allowing her to transform into any species that she focuses on. The species must exist; she cannot transform into a dragon or a dinosaur. Her transformations are roughly the same age as she -- being an adolescent herself, she cannot transform into a puppy or an old dog.
Willow is learning to pick certain aspects of an animal to transform as opposed to shapeshifting into the whole creature. For example, she can give herself an eagle's eyesight. However, should she wish to gain an eagle's wings, her arms would transform into them. She cannot sprout extra limbs and, thus, could not have wings appear out of her back.
With these abilities, Willow is also able to communicate with creatures while as a human. When she is transformed into a certain species, she can only communicate with said species outside of the usual animal body language.
Weaknesses: Willow's transforming duration is directly linked to her energy. She would not be able to shapeshift for too long while tired or hungry. Her metabolism is high, most likely due as a side effect of her mutation, giving her the need to eat several times a day, either as a human or as an animal. The fuller, more energetic she is while human, the longer she can stay transformed as an animal. On that note, she cannot stay in transformation while asleep or unconscious -- if she falls asleep as an animal, she will wake up as human.
There is also the chance that Willow will "lose herself" when transformed into an animal. This can occur if she has transformed for a particularly long time, and the animal instincts overcome her own, making her forget to return to her human form. She will eventually revert back when she falls asleep for the night, but she will have a memory gap from when she was "fully animal" whenever she wakes up. The memory loss does not help at all whenever Willow does wake up, considering she would wake up in unfamiliar places, such as strange parks or even in a tree if she had been some sort of bird.
While Willow has a rapport with animals, she cannot consciously control the creatures. She can certainly ask them to do errands or tasks, but it is up to the animals whether or not they want to listen. She does her best not to try to boss them around, anyway, and does not usually consider this as a downside to her mutation.
Skills/Hobbies: With her friendliness, Willow is talented at getting people together for a good time. Even as she was growing up, she was always the little girl who invited everyone to play. She loves introducing people to others, enjoying the fact that she can help others forge new friendships. One way she brings people together is through food. With her fast metabolism, Willow tends to get hungry often and has become a decent cook and baker. Her favorite dishes, of course, are desserts, but she's fairly proficient in many types of meals. She may make a mess when cooking, but she usually remembers to clean up after herself. Willow is also no stranger to experimenting while cooking, but most of her creations are edible. Willow also loves music. She has yet to have the attention span to actually learn how to play an instrument, but she isn't a bad singer. In fact, she's often humming or singing aloud to whatever current song that is stuck in her head. She's also a decent dancer, having the flexibility and confidence to move to any beat. There are times when Willow actually stops moving, however, and those times usually involve a book. She loves to read and learn, and is often camping out in the library on a rainy day. From high fantasy novels to biographies of famous individuals, Willow will read them all.
History: Willow's parents, Samuel and Natalie, got together a few years after college when Natalie applied for a business analyst position at his fledgling company. It was a bit of a scandal, really, when the two began seeing each other and breaking the anti-fraternization rules of the business, but who was going to go against the boss?
The company grew along with Samuel and Natalie's relationship, and they eventually settled down together on an estate on the edges of New York City. The couple were quite comfortable, with Natalie switching her focus from the company to nonprofit organizations that could benefit from their increased wealth. It was great publicity for Samuel's company and it made Natalie happy, so Samuel went along with Natalie's whims. He was ecstatic whenever Natalie got pregnant.
Basil was the first born, a son that shared Samuel's dark features and, upon growing older, his father's business instincts. A few years later, Natalie gave birth to a healthy pair of twin girls, Azalea and Camellia, that shared their mother's golden hair. About five years after that, Willow was born, inheriting a mixture of her parents' looks. The family seemed happy, with Basil following his father's footsteps, the twins going after their modeling dreams, and Willow content with learning as much as she could about the world.
Willow was about twelve years old when her mutations first became apparent. She had frightened the head cook when a few field mice followed her home one day, and she was sure the gardeners disliked all the crows that appeared whenever she hung around the vegetable paths. It all seemed odd, but the parents just figured that Willow had an affinity for animals and Natalie hoped that Willow would one day help out at the many animal shelters that they donated to.
Then Willow went and accidentally shapeshifted into a squirrel to climb a tree to watch the sunset the summer before the first year of high school.
Of course, it would not due for Willow to transform into all sorts of creatures at the prestigious boarding school she was supposed to go to. The Fosters instead cancelled Willow's enrollment at that school and were actively searching for a better place for their baby girl. Eventually, Willow was found by the X-Men and was invited to join the Institute and Bayville High. Despite never having the inkling to send any of their children to a public school, the Fosters agreed, hoping that both schools would be good for their youngest daughter and that she wouldn't be too naive to fit in.
