Monday, July 24, 2023 | 197 words | Clarissa Jenkins | Clarissa's first official thread! I'm also going off of what I said in her plotter. The typical hiking route around and slightly-up (it wasn't too high of a climb) Bayville Hills wasn't too strenuous. It was more of a warm-up, really, for most of the city's more athletic citizens, a trail just to get the blood pumping and muscles loose before their real workout.
Andrew was not one of Bayville's more athletic citizens.
He wasn't too out of shape, of course, and he's even walked this particular hiking trail before. It just wasn't a regular part of his routine.
Andrew's lovely companion was probably finding the trail simple enough. Unlike he, Clarissa was an athletic citizen of Bayville, one of the best at Bayville High, and he had wanted to join her on some little excursion. A day date, one could call it, something out in the summer sun.
Aside from wanting to enjoy Clarissa's company, Andrew did want to pick her brain about a couple of newer Bayville citizens.
About halfway up the trail, Andrew took a deep breath, trying not to look like he was panting. "Wait... hold up," he said, making a small gesture toward Clarissa to make her pause. "Break time. Please... God, who's idea was it to do this?"

♡ "Yours."Clarissa's casual quip was punctuated with measured, deep breaths. She was standing a couple of feet ahead of Andrew, her hands on her hips as she surveyed the trail ahead. She twisted her torso, stretching a touch before glancing back at Andrew with a raised eyebrow. Her lips curved up into a half-smile. "You alright there? C'mon, you're not that bad, are you?"Since Andrew was taking a break, Clarissa dug a water bottle out of her little backpack. She took a swig before returning it and taking out a small compact mirror. She frowned at her reflection before finding her lipstick from her pack and touching up her make-up. "Gotta admit, Andrew," she said after giving her lips an experimental smack, "I didn't think you'd want to go hiking in this heat. At least, not on a trail we've done before. You did say you wanted to talk to me about something. Catch your breath enough to start talking?"

"Shut up," Andrew said immediately after Clarissa reminded him that this trail was his idea. "I probably only suggested it because I knew you'd agree to it... and I could ogle your legs in your hiking shorts."
He took another couple of deep breaths, his tone casual, the light teasing coming easily between Clarissa and Andrew as per their usual. Clarissa mentioned that she was surprised he wanted to do a repeat hiking trail and he shrugged as he decided he could start walking again.
"Usually I would like to explore somewhere new," he agreed, "but I did want to focus on gossiping with you rather than the scenery.
"I met a couple of new kids that will be joining Bayville High in September," he continued, and told Clarissa of Adam Clayton and Olivia Nolen from the mall from the past weekend. "I will promise to do your homework for a class of your choosing for the first two weeks of school if you can convince Olivia to join the cheer squad. Adam mentioned trying out for the football team, so you will have some other jock to bat your eyelashes at, but I'm hoping Olivia will join cheer to get some school spirit and everything."

♡ Clarissa rolled her eyes when Andrew mentioned her legs, but her lips curved into a light smile. Andrew and she performed similar dances all the time. She didn't need her ego stroked by him, but the simple compliment was nice to hear just the same. Once Andrew got his breath back, the pair began their hike once more, albeit at a slightly slower pace. Clarissa could have bounded ahead, but Andrew did mention gossip and new kids. Her attention was piqued and she listened well to the story about an Olivia and an Adam in one of the mall's shoe stores. "Why are you so interested in having Olivia on the cheer team?" Clarissa asked, not bothering to hide how baffled she was at Andrew's words. "I mean, hey, if she's got the build and looks for it, sure, she can join the cheerleaders. I just didn't think you had that much interest in our cheer squad aside from wanting an occasional Friday night date.
"Tell me more about Adam," she said, nudging Andrew. "Does he rival Isaac in the muscle department?"

Clarissa rightly asked why Andrew was so intent on having Olivia on the cheer squad, and he acknowledged her words with a thoughtful hum as he formulated his response.
"Honestly," he said, "it's so I know her schedule. I have no idea what kind of classes she'll be in, so maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised and be in a class or two with her as well, but at the very least I'll know where she'll be during every football game. Figured you could help me get some intel, as well..."
Andrew snorted when Clarissa asked about Adam's muscles. "They're nowhere near Isaac's level," he said. "He looks like he needs to put more meat on his bones, really, but I think once he bulks up, he'll be an unmovable object on the football field. He has the tragic past of being an orphan, but I guess he's in some sort of group home or something with Olivia in the city. They didn't tell me where, though, and I couldn't fish up much on any of the typical social media sites. They're both new to Bayville."

♡ "Ah, so it's just so you know where your target will be," Clarissa said with a nod. "I'm guessing you didn't get Olivia's phone number? You're usually more thorough than that."She pouted a little when it was noted that this Adam didn't have many muscles, but by the sounds of it, he'd grow into a football uniform. Andrew mentioned that he couldn't find anything on social media about Olivia or Adam, and Clarissa raised a delicate eyebrow. "If you couldn't find them on social media, do they even exist?
"It is really intriguing, though, especially the group home detail," she continued. "Sure, I'll put a bug in Olivia's ear for you about the cheer squad. We lost a couple of members at the end of last year anyway because of college. New blood is always appreciated, both on the cheer squad and in Bayville High's halls. I want you to do my science homework for three weeks, not two. Nothing really happens during the first week and a half."

Andrew sighed dramatically, leaning against one of the rocky formations at the side of the hiking trail.
"Alas, I did not get a phone number," he said, one of his arms draped over his forehead. "I was too busy trying to be charming, telling them of some great lunch places. I did get thanked, but I backed off since Olivia seemed more focused on Adam." Andrew paused. "Not in an interested way or anything, more like a sibling way, I think. They really do not look related, though, and since I frustratingly can't find them on social media, I'm very interested in finding out their story."
Clarissa promised to invite Olivia to join the cheer squad and Andrew reached over to give her a quick kiss on the cheek. "I appreciate you," he said. "And, alright, three weeks of science homework it is. Thank you for also choosing one of my best subjects to seal this deal."

♡ Andrew Harvey 222 words This may be a decent place to stop? Thanks for the thread! Clarissa hummed in thought as Andrew gave a few more details about Adam and Olivia, about how the pair seemed to be more focused on each other during the time Andrew met them. "That is curious," she said, "but you mentioned how they are from a group home. Something like that is a strong thing in common to have. You said Adam at least is an orphan? Who knows about Olivia, then. They may just be treating each other as siblings, being protective and all that, you know?"It was all speculation, Clarissa knew, and she knew she was playing Devil's Advocate to Andrew at this point, despite getting a taste of the new kids' stories. Once Clarissa met the pair, she was sure she'd be just as agitated by the mystery of Adam and Olivia as Andrew was. "Of course you do," Clarissa said when Andrew mentioned he appreciated her, letting Andrew kiss her cheek and responding with a flip of her ponytail. She took a sip of her water before pouring a little on her hands and wetting the back of her neck against the day's summer heat. "Come on, then," she said. "Let's finish up this trail then find someplace cooler to hang out. If the beach is too crowded, maybe I'll let you treat me to a movie..."
